Maximum resolution of video cards...

That was probably due to CRT having VGA and "Digital Display" meant DVI.

Or LCD's didn't have a higher resolution back then because that was 10 years ago...
 
Says right there in the tech specs, the RAMDAC runs at 300MHZ (2048*1536*1.4*60=264) and single link DVI is 165MHZ (1600*1200*1.4*60=161) but that's with blanking which isn't needed for DVI. I guess its possible that card can't disable blanking though.
