some one just told me that windows 98 will not run any faster if you put more than 128 megs of ram in it. they said that someone tested some machines and concluded that win 98 can not utilize more than 128 megs. is this true? is there a way to get around it other than upgrading to 2000?

I have a Win98 box with 256 ram in it. over 128 for win98 is overkill unless you do photoediting or dv. if you were doing any of the above i would switch to 2k as well. Quake and UT load faster but that's about it. Win98 doesn't seem to give back mem well either.

i do graphics, video and games. i also just read that if you switch the computers role to a server rather than a workstation, it would run a little faster. i have 320 ram and didn't notice as much of a diff as i thought i would from 64.

OK.. time to put this misconception about Win98 away once and for all..

Window 98se is capable of addressing up to 2gb of ram!!!

Now rather you actually need to use more than 128? That's your own problem, I just bought myself 256 Cas2Ram and when compare to when I had 128 Cas3, my average windows performance get's about a 20-25% increase, not much in gaming though.. although most noticabley in encoding DivX and doing Photoshop stuff.

trust me.. window 98 can take more than 128mb ram.
