-used a beta test motherboard that we can't even get
-Blu ray burner for $1000? link? why do we need these again?
-"SLI is the only game in town for dual-GPU configs, as far as we're concerned" MAX PC biased against ati with regards to its dual config Crossfire??? wth is this? don't crap on me ... from the way i read it.. it sounds like MAX PC = sli fanboys?
-why not X1900xtx Crossfire? and use a MB that we can actually buy?
-2 x dell 2407WFP, i thought sli didn't work with dual monitors... since its Dream machine, why not go 2 x 2407's and 1 x 20' 4:3 LCD for the true surroud gaming? just an idea
-keyboard is way too bulky, since dream machine is supposedly an all out gaming machine, why not a logitech g15 or saitek eclipse?
-why PCPC Silencer 750 and not 1k? isn't dream machine supposed to be "all out"?
-zalman cooler has been surpassed by many already...
-paint job is 6/10 to me.. preference i guess

Waste of money for the most part imo. Not to say I wouldn't have fun with it :D.

Other then that; whatever?

As for the Blu-ray. They are constantly using stuff that is either normally proprietary or not out yet in the dream machines.

Keyboards are all personal preference IMO

Mobo - see blu-ray comment

Power supply - It's not needed (although I doubt the 750 is needed either) but they could make the computer insanely more expensive if they went as far out there as they could. They keep it "semi" realistic

For that much money I could get one hell of a machine for $5000 and maybe a used Ford Focus for $5000

I'd take two 3007FPs over the 2407s right now since people are still reporting banding issues. :)

Why do you want to crap on MaximumPC?
They have a magazine to publish so that ******* like us read it. I wouldn't buy a magazine that's dream machine for 2006 was an overclocked 1GHz Coppermine.
People in this forum are pushing extreme hardware constantly.

I really believe MaxPC is paid off by Nvdia, as you'll often get those "The power of Three!" minimags with your issue, and they seem to constantly favor NV Cards in their tests. (Like there video card showdown where they crowned the 7900gtx a victor...)

Well, it is a Dream Machine.;)
-Blu ray burner for $1000? link? why do we need these again?
My feelings exactly.
True, why not use Crossfire which already works with readily available 975X motherboards?
-2 x dell 2407WFP, i thought sli didn't work with dual monitors... since its Dream machine, why not go 2 x 2407's and 1 x 20' 4:3 LCD for the true surroud gaming? just an idea
A single Dell 3007WFP is all a Dream Machine needs.
-keyboard is way too bulky, since dream machine is supposedly an all out gaming machine, why not a logitech g15 or saitek eclipse?
Keyboards are a very subjective choice. And a Natural 4000 Keyboard isn't going to add any more bulk to a setup that you suggested should use Three 20"+ monitors.
-why PCPC Silencer 750 and not 1k? isn't dream machine supposed to be "all out"?
Why 1KW when 750W does the job?
-zalman cooler has been surpassed by many already...
True. What ~$10,000 Dream Machine couldn't use a $250 Swiftech WC kit at the very least?
-paint job is 6/10 to me.. preference i guess

I'm surprised they used 'only' DDR2 800. The X-Fi Elite Pro looks like a waste.

I think a dream machine should use an optical out hooked up to an entry-level Denon/HK receiver with at least a $1000 5.1 speaker kit. Something from Paradigm at the very least? Perhaps throw in an SVS Subwoofer?

Why use 7900GTX's when you can use 7950GTX's (I think nVidia recently released a driver for quad SLI support - if not, who cares? It's a dream machine, it doesnt have to make sense)

Why Raptors? Just go SCSI.
Monitor - there are bigger and badder monitors around.

Cooling... My Dream Machine would have phase change cooling, not some air crap. My RAM would also be able to keep up as much as possible with my overclocked FSB. See here for high end DDR2 memories

Also, where's the phase change? 4GB of memory? Needs a hot swap for the raid 5.

I quit reading the mag. Too much advertisements now. And it's the same crap over and over. Get a decent tech news site, and it's all the better. And cheaper. I still read CPU though. Great mag.

I would rather go with a single 150GB raptor, a nice quiet watercooling setup, and a noise dampening case. Then, have a second system in the closet connected via gigabit lan that holds 5x 750 GB drives in raid 5.

Reference mobo? Ugh...

I'd rather get a silent water-cooling setup and OC a E6600 to 4 GHz. That would be a dream machine to me. Also I'd get some of that new Gigabyte I-RAM 2 that doesn't lose its data.

Knowing me I'd get a $6000 LED-backlit LCD and the $625 NEC 20WMGX2 also. $3000 on the PC, $6625 on the monitor(s). :D

So-called "dream machines" that are put together nowadays are simply retarded. You just take all the most expensive stuff, because it is the fastest, and make it your list. Done. Building a dream machine in the computer world is pointless, because there's no controversy nowadays as to who is the fastest, and even if their was, it's one or the other (Intel vs AMD, or nVidia vs ATI).

No point at all in that system since DX10 video cards are just along the horizon. Wait until next year to make a dream system ;)
