I thought about putting Linux on my PS3 when I recently picked it up .. however, I'm left wondering why I'd do that. I'm a pretty computer savvy fellow.. I've got my gaming desktop, my "productivity" laptop, a linux box for giggles (media/etc.).. so I suppose I'm just not the intended audience? I think it's a great option that Sony has placed natively. Are there really that many people that use their gaming console as a PC as well?

Actually, ive been thinking about it.
I use my PS3 as my media center and stream videos to my tv(PS3) from my pc.
But the PS3 doesnt play all types of videos even if use tversity.

So i may try it just to see if i can get VLC player working on the PS3 since it plays virtually everything.

I have that issue of Maximum PC and ive been thinking of trying it ever since seeing the article.

Since i really dont wanna build a full blown media pc for what little i'd use it anyway and the PS3 is already sitting there unused most of the time nowadays.

You know, I guess I'd probably do the same if I wasn't still living in an apartment where I keep my desk/computer next to my TV. So I just run audio/video from my computer to my receiver/TV. One day I'll probably put them in different rooms and then the PS3 might be prime for the position.

I've been hearing good things about PS3 Media Server, and I'll be trying it out in the near future.

PS3 Media Server is awesome and I highly recommend it. Easy to configure and plays everything for me so far - streams flac, xvids and 1080p mkv.

Agreed. Tversity kept needing to be restarted. That was a no-go for me. Tried the PS3MS and haven't bothered with tversity since.

yup.

I don't use it at all, but my brother has his home vids, pics, craploads of films streaming from his computer to PS3 into his living room and never has had a problem.

I've watched quite a few, and I'm really damn impressed with this machine.

( Funny, I'm the one that told him this was an amazing device and that he should get it; and he's already getting more use than I am :p)

Guess i should post that I'm loving PS3 Media Server, it really has played every type of video file ive thrown at it flawlessly to my PS3.
And it installed with no issues on my Windows 7 setup.

So PS3 Media Server gets   from me!
