Maximum PC does p4 seti benchmark

<< We also saw the P4 take the speed crown in a SETI benchmark. Using a single unit (availible from Teamlambchop.com), the E.T.-hunting software measures how long it takes to process the unit. The P4 spit the unit out in an amazing 150 minutes >>

The review is from the January issue of Maximum PC magazine, and is not availible on their website yet.

Their testbed was a 1.5ghz p4, and 256 mb of PC800 rdram.

For a comparison they used a 1.2ghz T-bird with 256MB of PC2100 ddr sdram which did the unit in 167 minutes.

So the P4 IS actually a little faster than the 1.2Ghz TBird. That's good to know. However, for the cost of a single P4 CPU (not to mention new motherboard, case and memory) I could build me several complete Duron/TBird systems and do quite a few more WU's! 🙂

Still, if the P4 ever gets down to a decent price, that would be SWEET in a dual machine!! 😀

Thanks for the heads up 🙂
And wow thats 1 fast SETI cruncher!:Q ,The Athlon isn't far behind though 🙂

BTW how did you get that info? (or shouldn't I ask!? 😉)
