-------------------- Maxima rattle?

(I am denied access to the maxima forums, so here I am...)

I have a Maxima 2000 SE. Been great since I got it, until Monday. Over the weekend I went over some major pot-holes where I live. Coming out of the garage at work on Monday, and going over the speed bumps, a loud rattle sound. Like moving a bag filled with aluminum cans is best I can describe.

Checked today, and the Muffler pipe is loose, causing it to rattle. It bounces back and forth right in front of the right rear tire. The muffler tailpipe doesn't move at all.

I'm worried the next big pothole I go over, down tailpipe to asphalt. Anyone have an idea of how much it might cost to put a fastener(?) back on the undercarriage and secure the muffler again?

It won't be expensive - just don't take it to a dealer.

Just go to the nearest muffler shop and have them weld on a new hanger. I would be shocked if it cost more than $20 unless they talk you into a new exhaust system.

same thing happened to my old 1991 Sable - the noise was terrible, I thought the car was done for.

Found the rattle, and reattached it with a pipe clamp from a hardware store. 40 cent fix FTW!

Would the car need to go on a lift to work on this?

crawl under car with wire hanger
use wire hanger to secure muffler
weeeeee fixed it yay....

common sense much.... you are asking Iamwiz, who gave you an estimate, to give exact pricing and details on how they will fix the car....

Of course it will go on a lift, why have a lift if you are just going to crawl around under the car or jack it up instead??
