Gee,maybe that 9100 might have something to do with it?

If you want a gaming machine, you get desktop, not a laptop.

yeah, but i was expecting more like 9000-11000 just because of the processor and memory

He'll be the one laughing when you try to take your system, kyb&mouse, speaker/headphones, and monitor some place ;) BTW, if you paid $1800 fpr a system that only score 17500 in 2k1se you got ripped off :Q:p

Processor and memory can't do jack to improve a crappy video card.

actually i had an 8500LE and with a 2GHZ Athlon 200 FSB setup I got real close to 10,000 like 9800 or something. my guess is that the heat in the laptop case is causing the chip to not run at full speed.

Your friend should have waited a few more weeks for the Alienware Area-51m w/ GF FX5600Go & 3.2GHz 800FSB :)

ATi 9500 NP -> 9800 (ATi Radeon)

Why would you buy a 9500 then swap out the GPU\ram for those of a 9800? It wouldn't perform as well as a real 9800, plus where would you find the gpu\ram for sale? Oh, surely you don't mean you used a SOFTWARE mod to magically change your GPU and Ram from .13 micron to .15 micron? Amazing how a software hack can turn yesterdays budget card into tomorrows super card....

PS. Can you link to the site where you got that hack? I have a P3 1ghz I'm looking to turn into a 2.4C w/ Hyperthreading.

actually, that kinda annoys me when i hear it to. For the love of good a 9700/9500 CANNOT be softmodded to a 9800 OR 9800 PRO. yet at the same time i dont see how that pertains to this thread

i only call it a 9500 NP -> 9800 hack because that is what the OMEGA drivers call it. i'm not sure why they call it a 9800 hack but not 9700, but my performance is pretty dang good. a get 15k 3dmarks and no artifacts whatsoever.

The 9500 is a .15 micron chip, the 9600 is the only desktop .13 micron chip ATI makes

What do you expect? Notebooks have wimpy graphics subsystems and there's nothing that can be done about it. A 9800pro consumes more power than an entire notebook.

Dude, you totally don't know what you're talking about. The 9500np -> 9700 software mod works great. And the 9500 and 9700/9800 are both 0.15 micron. The 9500 has the exact same core as the 9700. The 9500 has only 4 active pipes rather than 8 like the 9700 and the software mod simply turns on the extra 4 pipes. However, many 9500's have defective pipes so they don't turn into 9700 successfully but some do.

I get 15k 3dmarks w/ a GF4... a Radeon 9800 or GFX5900 should be able to break 18 or 19k. You don't have one, that's why you're not getting that high.
