MaxBlast Software......... Is this needed to set up new HD?

Ok , finally getting the last component of my new pc today (video card) YAY ! Finally get this thing going !

Setting up a single new Maxtor 80gb drive w/ Win2000pro . The MaxBlast software is not really needed to do this , correct ?
I've seen people cuss this software in the past on this forum & of course , I've also seen people swear by using it ................ Opinions please 😉

Thanks .

No it is not necessary, you only need to partition and format the drive before installing the OS. I think i have used it a few times with no major complaints, I normally use partition magic to prep a new drive.

In your situation it isn't needed. I have, however, been able to restore a hosed up boot sector with it so it is of some use.

I have two maxtor drives and I think the max blast is about useless. i just use a win98 boot disk with fdisk utility on it and set it up using that. then after fdisk and partitioning the drive i then go in and use the xp disk to format it and all. that is the best setup...

I need to respectfully take issue with Tbirdkid. What he does is fine and works well, but there is no disadvantage to doing the same with Maxblast (latest version is 3.06).

I love Maxblast; I can set up as many partitions as I want in whatever size and whatever type (Fat32, NTFS etc) as I feel like 🙂

I have had countless bad interactions with max blast... I will never use it again. ask Gotey he will tell ya... he saw it too

The earliest MaxBlast versions were somewhat buggy and less useful than the current one . . . I like it a lot (now).

I had a lot of problems with the early version too. Like I said above, the current version has a lot of good utilities.
