MAX3 Released with "Maximun Security"

I was reading through the features listed by the new Abit MAX3 board specifically concerning the new "SecureIDE" feature of the board.

"A password can be cracked by software in a few hours. ABIT's SecureIDE will keep government supercomputers busy for weeks and will keep the RIAA away from your Kazaa files.

I found this rather funny, and timely for that matter.

Wonder if anyone at Anandtech will do a review on this board, seems interesting enough. like the secure ide and otes for the power componnets

very nice I was expecting the OTES but I'm pleasantly surprised with the 6 channel serial ATA RAID. The Secure IDE sounds nice but I'd like to see what kind of hit the performance takes, this would be nice for laptops for example. 6-Channel AC 97 CODEC on board - Professional digital audio interface supports 24-bit S/P DIF optical In/Out - very nice. And finally 3 firewire, who needs three but I'm not complaining. Did anyone notice the size of the heatsink on the south bridge holy molly..

the other thing I just noticed unless I'm wrong is that you have 6 channels of SATA but the SecureIDE only works on the PATA which is a bummer.

So, there's a dongle that encrypts the data on your hard drive. what happens when the motherboard eventually dies, and you can't unencrypt your data to move it to another machine?

from my understanding it's not attached to the mobo it's just an added type of card. you can even get a new system and secureIDE system coz the 'key' to de-crypting the HD is on the dongle so as long as your have the HD and the 'key' your ok. The manufacturer claims that they destroy the key database once they make the dongle or key and that they can't reproduce the key. Thing is for example that even if the riaa through the court system claims your HD they would just ask the court to claim your key as well. Fear not since a new p2p is in the works that will encrypt your ip. You'll be able to trace it to the isp but that's it.

I think IBM have that feature on their laptops (SecureID)
