Hi all, long time since ive posted on here but as ive just upgraded and getting back into the OCing scene thought it revisit for some advice.

So i just go myself a new mobo (Asus P5NE-SLI), E6750 and 4gb of Corsair CM2X1024-6400.
So far ive been running the cpu @3.5GHz on 1.456v and its orthos stable for 8 hours. however, when i push it to 3.6GHz its no longer stable in orthos but seems fine everywhere else...
temps @3.5GHz never exceed 37c under full load and @3.6GHz never exceed 40c so i know that temp should be limiting me but i dont want to over-volt

is this the most i can get from this cpu or is there a bit more i can squeze from it?

to monitor temp i use both core temp and asus pc probe II (asus probe gives higher readings than coretemp and those are ther ones ive listed)

any help is much appreciated

BTW old rig was Asus A8N-SLI with AMD 64 3500+ - what an upgrade huh!!!
Intel all the way for me now!

You on water? Coz those temps are rather unrealistic. What app you using to monitor temps? Chances are you have to add 15c to those temps to get the real temperature. Yesterday I read that q6600's can take 1.55v TOPS, I assume this is the same for e6750's. I think you'r fairly save with 1.5v, but I wouldn't go any higher. Besides, isn't 3,5ghz fast enough?

hi, nope not on water - i run two apps (as listed in the orignal post) to meaure temp - Coretemp and Asus PCPrbe II
PCProbe gives much higher reading than Coretemp and those are the temps I listed in OP
i did try running TAT but it just gives an error messgae whenever i try running it...
i suppose 3.5Ghz is fast enough but like most people here i just want to know what else this puppy can do...

Hmmm...suspect Prime/Orthos Large mode will yield +50C core temp @ 3.5GHz. The only way you'll see 40C under load is with room temp under 55C.

You are probably running an old version of Coretemp. Get the latest 0.95.4.

ok thanks for the info guys - i will try to answer all your questions now...

Yoxxy thanks for the volts info - i guess i'll try 3.6GHz at 1.5v and if that doesnt do it then i'l leave it at 3.5GHz

SerpentRoyal do you mean i should run both prime95 and orthos at the same time to load the cpu? i have run two instances of super pi 32M at the same time and still no temp over 40c but i will run prime and orthos and see what happens

BTW room temp is DEF under 55c (thats like a friggin oven!) - i live in the UK so i cant ever see my room temp gettin anywhere near that!

PlasmaBomb error on TAT was "Error enumerating On Demand Clock Modulation support. Terminating Tool"

mrfatboy checked coretemp and am running current version

I should probably add that my cooling system is a Zalman CNPS9500 and against tradition i used quite a thick layer of SHIN-ETSU Heat Sink Silicon Compound...

there is absolutely no way you are getting 37c running orthos on both cores with that cpu cooler. I'm at 3.5 using a tuniq tower and I get 50c running DC, closer to 55c running orthos. I have an antec 900 with all case fans on med, too, so my case also has great airflow.

well i hadnt tried orthos on both cores but i am currently runnin orthos AND prime 95 and temps sittin at 41c via PC Probe II or 37c via Coretemp
wat other apps can i use cause im not making this up...

I'm pretty sure he meant 55°F, since 55°C is 131°F. Here in the US, we use Fahrenheit for everything, except computers, and sometimes we confuse ourselves. I know I've done it quite a few times, myself.

yeah i kinda guessed that but you never know...

just to update... i upped the volts to 1.5 and clocked @3.6GHz and im now running 2 x orthos "Small FFTs - stress cpu" and temps are as follows:
Coretemp 46c
PC Probe 44c

just ran 2 instances of orthos for 8 hours clocked @3.6GHz on 1.5v and never saw a higher temp than 45c via Coretemp or PC Probe

Download speedfan? And did you use coretemp version 0.95.4? And what's your ambient room temp? Is your PC near an airconditioning unit?

Hi, just downloaded and ran Speedfan - 46c max with 2 instances of orthos whilst clocking 3.6GHz @ 1.485v
also ran coretemp and pc probe with similar temps displayed (45c, and 44c respectively)

ambient room temp is about 25c and no my PC is nowhere near any AC of any sorts.
