What do you guys recommend for the core voltage and the vdimm???

Which one should I bump first?

Should I install windows before I overclock?

Where can I download programs to test OC stability?

Any other steps and procedures would be greatly appreciated. It's been a while since I've OC'd a comp so I'm a newbie again.

Thanks!

1)depends on your chip and motherboard.

2)neither is really less important than the other...if either is too low you will get instabilities.

3)yes install windows before you overclock. NEVER install while overclocked.

4)download prime95 and memtest....you need to run 2 instances of prime95 if you have a P4 w/ HT

Always install Windows, plus all of your software, before attemting any overclocking. And you shouldn't go above, or much above anyway, 1.70v (actual) voltage with a P4. BTW, that power supply isn't going to get you very far with your overclock, unless you have an older, lower power video card, it's only got a 20A 12v rail. A 460 watt Enermax would have been a much better choice, and would have only cost you $16 more.;) Good luck, though.

His 430 watt ps is more than adequate. I have a 300 watt Sparkle ps running my overclocked 3.0C with no problem.

What myocardia is saying about the Enermax is consistant 12V rails. I had an Antec 450 and my 12V rail would dip to around 11.78 when OC'ed. With my Enermax, my 12V rail (VERY important for P4's) is FIXED on 12.04.....it doesn't move. I am very impressed with Enermax and wouldn't buy another PSU for the world.

With stock timings (manufacturer specs) you will not need to raise the DDR voltage. Just check the specs.

As for the Vcore....find out its maximum overclock at stock voltage.....then figure out how much it is worth to you for those extra mhz compared to the extra voltage. If you have stock cooling, you will notice your temps skyrocketing if you raise the voltage. But you can OC with same voltage and hardly notice a temp increase. Once you have found your max FSB w/ stock voltage....it becomes a very steep uphill climb....meaning that for every few FSB increase, a voltage increase will be required. I would suggest not going above 1.65 to be safe.....but I would also suggest that the extra mhz won't help you that much.....raise it using stock voltage and find that max.

OC'ing then installing Windows is fun. Generally not a good idea, but it's not necessarily bad. If there are corrupt files, it'll just waste time, but it's not like it'll kill anything. :D
