Anyone know what the maximum size SATA HDD I can install in a Dell PE 2950?

I would figure whatever you get out ought to work as long as it is the right physical size (2.5 or 3.5). I did use an old 2950 once as a backup 'SAN' using 8x1TB disks in the 2.5" form factor and it worked pretty well.

Some controllers don't support >2TB drives.

From the factory 2950 is limited to 2TB. Many need firmware updates to present LUNs > 2TB. Some simply can't.

FYI there are many revisions of the "2950" so >2TB LUNs is based on the RAID controller in the unit more than looking up "2950."

Perc 6 specifically can do > 2TB LUNs with a firmware update. I don't think the PERC5s will.
