Max Payne Plot Question

BDawg

Lifer
I'm playing Max Payne for the first time. Now I'm in the basement of a mob hotel, but I have some questions about the plot up to here.

Before, I was a cop who's familly was murdered by druggies, correct? After that, I moved to DEA.

The next thing, I'm supposed to meet "Alex" in the subway where there is a band robbery and Alex gets killed. Am I still a police officer now? What evidence do they have that I killed Alex or that I was even there?

Now, I'm in this hotel. Why? The TV describes me as a multiple felon...when did this happen?

And lastly, why can I dodge bullets and move in slow motion? 🙂

Because it's f'n cool 😀

I think you're known as a multiple felon because the cops saw you going to meet Alex and then he turned up dead, so they assume you killed him and killed your wife and kid, too.

I wondered the same thing. Maybe from security cameras or as an anonymous "tip" from the dude that smoked Alex.

It's the bad guys setting you up to get rid of you. I can't tell you more as it gives away too much of the plot (which is half the game).

You will really, really LOVE this game. I still play it from time to time. 🙂 Anxiously awaiting MP II....allegedly end this year, IIRC.

I'm replaying it (on the harder level unlocked after you beat the easiest one) mostly so I can crank up all the details with my new vid card and check out all the eye candy I missed the first time through playing it on a GF2. It's a great game....one of the few to really hold my attention all the way through single player of late.

Not much of a plot to speak of. Max must take too many painkillers because his choice of metaphors in the voiceovers is horrendous.

I'm pretty sure that the semi-cheesy dialogue was intentional. Kind of a film-noir meets Mickey Spillane crime novel thing.

Not to mention the goofiness of his face...definitely doesn't match his voice.

Hehe....you all of course know that there will be a Max Payne movie in the not-too-distant future, right?

I'm betting they'll really eff up the casting and get Ah-nuld. How much would that suck?

Come to think of it, I bet Russell Crowe (semi-reprising the "Bud" role from LA Confidential) could pull it off pretty well.

I'm borrowing the PS2 version from my brother and playing on my widescreen TV. I love how most PS2 games are set up for widescreen!

So, I don't have any reason to slow down time (a la super powers or matrix-type world), I just do because it would be cool in a video game?

So why am I in this hotel anyway? Is my life mission to stop this V drug?

No, your mission is to get revenge on the people that smoked your wife and kid, and those that framed you. Busting up the people that manufacture/sell Valkir is just a pleasant side effect.

The hotel is not as easy as it looks at first. Sawed-off shotgun is your best friend on this level.

So far, it hasn't been too bad. I'm in the chapter with that Jose Muerte guy. Personally, I like the dual berettas. Why can't I get dual DE .50s? 😉

They had to have some level of realism. I don't think there's anyone on the planet who can fire a DE .50 with one hand. You would probably dislocate your shoulder trying to do that.

Dual Ingrams in bullet-time is fun as hell. Too bad those things eat up ammo like Anna Nicole eats up cheeseburgers.

Come on...I have 300 lbs of lead in my body, but I'm okay because of pain killers. I can dodge beams of light in bullet time, but the kick from DEs is too much for me? 🙂

Considering the fact that the people who killed your family were V junkies, it is only appropriate. 😀
