I can't say i'd get my movie reviews from a game website. lol :)

It may be bad, but I'll wait for a real review to come out.

TBH I'd agree but at least for me, IGN has been pretty spot on with my personal opinions. Of course this doesn't mean much to others I suppose.

I came here to post that.

I don't put much stock in a gaming fan-based film analysis.

They didn't follow the game in some aspects that didn't necessarily make sense. Max Payne had a good story that pretty much you just had to follow and you'd be fine... but noooo let's fuck with it.

To be honest, I'm going to see Sex Drive tomorrow... you can see the first 10 minutes on MySpace for free ( http://www.myspace.com/sexdrivemovie -- no gimmicks that I saw... just scroll down and watch! Good quality too!) and it made me laugh at least once, so I'll go check it out.

Based on the Rockstar videogame franchise, Max Payne follows the eponymous maverick cop (Mark Wahlberg), who is a NYPD detective here rather than an undercover DEA agent. A brooding widower whose pregnant wife and unborn child were murdered

:disgust::roll:
I stopped reading the review after that. It would be nice if reviewer/writers would play the game and watch the movie being writing a review of a movie based on a game.

As for the movie, it was bleh. There was enough dead people. I just hope the DVD has an uncut version showing crazy ammounts of blood. It shows him shooting with a few different types of guns. As for the plot, it was mostly true to the original, but they left out most of the italian mob connection out of it. Other than a few recongizable names. Plus the Sax sisters were Russian, which I could have sworn the dead sister was married to one of the Italian mob guys in the game.

Wait for the DVD rental or idiot friend who has it on DVD to borrow it.

Good Night,
Idiot ATer who went to see it

Honestly IGN's film and dvd reviews are usually spot on.

Not all of their writers are game writers.

i only say this in the sense that someone who likely has more experience playing games will approach movie reviews from that perspective. Two different mediums, different techniques and "requirements" for telling a story.

a reviewer at a game site will likely view such an adaptation as it relates to the game that inspired it. A film, however, should be approached on its own. Like any film based on a book, it should be examined independently of its original source, lest it be confused with a storyline improper to its medium.

Maybe IGN contracts exclusive film critics with no exposure to gaming...I don't know. And it won't matter to me b/c I'd go to a dedicated film site for a film review, anyway.

just saying ;)

Well, the guy trying to get revenge for his slain wife, Aesir = Bad and Mona halps Max is the same, but it seems everything else was altered for some reason (probably to try to fit the director's vision of Max Payne). Now, I haven't played the game in years, but I remember that Mona wasn't in the spotlight so much. She also didn't trust Max nearly that fast and their budding relationship didn't really start until the end and culminates in Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. BB didn't kill Max's wife in the game... thugs sent by Aesir did because she was digging in too deep via her job at the DA's office. BB kills Max's old partner. It's odd how they cut things out (like the mob) and yet the game takes place in one night but the movie takes place over a couple days :p. Also, I think the game took it in a more fun/interesting manner.. you kinda didn't know what happened. You were Max Payne, supposedly a renegade cop that killed another cop. Things were revealed as you went along and it all opened up nicely.

I just saw max payne today.

tbh, wahlberg was a good choice for max payne.

kunis wasnt bad for sax, but...

wtf with ludacris as jim bravura?

etc...

anyways, they fucked up the bullet time REALLY bad.

but what most killed the movie was the COMPLETE LACK OF NARRATIVE MONOLOGUE. that's what made max payne... more than bullet time.

and what the fuck with turning lupino into some crappy gang leader?

and everybody should have been running around screaming "THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS!!!"

(but it did give me an oppertunity to pull my xbox copy of max payne out of the closet and give it another go. still in part 1 atm... fear that gives men wings.)

(did i mention how much i love the monologue?)

Just watched this movie. God what a mess. Terrrrible casting choices. This movie had so much potential given the material to work with. Could have been the next Sin City, but they turned it into a crappy action movie with no substance. Not to mention the marketing department went with some really dumb ass supernatural slant that wasn't part of the movie at all.

Honestly, how can you do a Max Payne movie with 0 voiceover narration

I had 0 expectations for this movie, i already knew it sucked before I watched it. But amazingly it wasn't that bad. It wasn't great, but for a pc game turned movie it was pretty entertaining. Reminded me of the original resident evil.

What the fuck is with video game movies that have nothing to do with the video game? This was worse than the Doom movie (already top contender for one of the biggest letdowns ever).

1) No deadpan voiceover monologue. WTF? I was expecting Fight Club/Goodfellas-style nonstop voiceover, constant insight into what was going on in his head.
2) Max Payne is about a cop that leaves a trail of dead scum everywhere he goes.
3) WTF with Nicole Horne? Look like an old cold bitch in three scenes and that's it?
4) Not enough bullet-time, I was expecting a bullet-time charged crazy guns-blazing run-through-a-packed-warehouse scene (not unlike the one in Wanted).
5) The Valkyries theme was way overdone and not even present in the game. Horrible replacement for the trippy-as-balls dream sequences.
6) Wasn't Valkyr green?
7) Where the fuck is the main theme? Including the Max Payne 2 theme would have probably added a star to this movie's rating.

Plenty of things wrong with the movie, barely worthy of a single star. I don't even know where to begin and how to write a paragraph describing how shitty they turned one of the most epic video game series ever. Playing through Max Payne 2 is about a thousand times the entertainment this movie provides.

I imagine this is what a Uwe Boll movie is like.
