Max Payne -- "god" mode?

How do I get into "god" mode?

press F12 2 times

type "god"
press enter
press F12 another 2 times and you are good to go

Press F12 a couple of times. That'll pull up the console

I'm hitting F12 everywhere and it doesn't do anything.

I don't understand how to do this.

on the shortcut to the game, right click and go to properties. where it says
"C:\Program Files\Max Payne\maxpayne.exe"

(Just an example, I don't even have the game), edit it to say:

"C:\Program Files\Max Payne\maxpayne.exe -developer"

it will not allow me to do this. when I try to add "developer" to the end it gives me an error message

you need to download the patch if there is some sort of troublesome combination of hardware. MP wont run on my friends Win2K machine for some reason.

It should look like this: "C:\Program Files\Max Payne\MaxPayne.exe" -developer

Now, how do you take it out of "god" mode to resume normal play?
