Just thought of checking the Max Payne 3 official website this evening (done so many times lately to see if any updates have taken place) and this time I saw the most major update till now...new screenshots of the game:

http://www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne3/index2.php

Somehow I thought Max Payne's character model is a bit like Sam Fisher in Double Agent in the screenshots. Also, I noticed the screens showing shooting sequences in daylight but I sure hope most of the game takes place at night, I like the dark world in the Max Payne games so far.

For some reason I feel like its the initial screenshots from Crysis all over again.

but if it really does look like that, then wow.

I hope I'm wrong but after seeing the xbox 360 and PS3 logos on the bottom of their site, I have to say meh it's just another console port. Also those are clearly not in-game screen shots. It's the most f'd up 3rd person view if it is

Graphically it doesn't seem impossible to be real. It doesn't have to be a screenshot from the location the player would be viewing from to be an in game shot. They probably are just trying to show off what the game looks like.

looks to be screenshots within the in-game graphics engine

if it wasn't for the beard, I'd say he looks like Bruce Willis

Does not look like Max Payne because it lacks the gritty film noir feel. Now it's all... tropical...

This. They decided to just remove the entire feel of the first two games and steal the vibe from Far Cry 2?

This is a complete change from the first two games. the first two were set up against the mafia in a city format, with Pain looking like the typical graphic novel cop. Now he looks like he is in some third world country fighting terrorists, and he looks nothing like he did before. It just doesn't seem to have the same charm as the setting from the first two. It might be a good game on its own, but the looks are far different from the first two at least and I wonder if it will really feel like a Max Payne game?

Well, I agree with the disappointment over the huge change in style, but I'll reserve judgment until I still the game in motion.

Which in turn is trying to steal it from Crysis, which stole it from Far Cry 1.

Crysis 'stole' from FC1? They're both Crytek right? You can't really steal from your own company =P

Reminds me of those Coke commercials where the guys from Coke want to sue Coke Zero for taste infringement.

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about the game at this point as well. Hopefully we're both wrong.

Here are a few tidbits about MP3

According to Rockstar's Sam Houser, they are starting a new chapter of Max's life with the game. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever." Since the last game, the press release states Max has left New York behind and has "drifted from bad to worse". The press release then goes on to say Max has been double-crossed in this new city and he is searching for the truth and a way out. His appearance has also been drastically changed. He is bald, has grown a full beard and has gained a noticeable increase in weight. He also no longer wears his trademark leather jacket.

A recent issue of Game Informer has revealed that the story is set 12 years after the last game. Payne has been cut loose from the NYPD, and has moved to São Paulo, Brazil where he's taken up employment in the private security sector, working for a wealthy local family.

intense violence will employ a tweaked version of the original games' famed Bullet Time system, along with cover-based combat, apparently. What's more, it will take place in an elaborate, RAGE engine-powered recreation of the Brazilian city with procedural animation, destructible environments and the usual day-and-night cycle. There will also be online multiplayer, according to the report.

Loved the first two games, took a look at the screenshots and nearly threw up. Yuck. Tropical setting? Fat overweight Bruce Willis? What happened to the gritty film noir gothic setting?

Lame. Do not want.

True. the whole FC/Crysis situation is all borked up. Crytek basically had to name their next game 'Crysis' because Ubisoft got the rights to the Far Cry name (Ubi was Crytek's publisher for FC). So, instead of making a Far Cry 2 that was anything like the first game we knew and loved, they just slapped the name Far Cry 2 on a completely different game. This probably would have gone over a lot better had FC2 been a better game. Some good ideas in FC2, but overall a pretty boring game IMO. I think this is what has people skeptical about MP3.

Is it too late for them to change the name? Looks like a cool game, but this is NOT a Max Payne game.

This is Max Payne.

This is not Max Payne.

I'm not trying to be obtuse. I'm all for new games based off of older cool games. I liked Fallout 3, but this looks ridiculous.

Wait, what the fuck? Why does Payne look like Vin Diesel with a beard and too many cheeseburgers? Why do game companies keep ruining franchises like this? If it's a great game it will stand on it's own without the Max Payne title.

Exactly, and now as I take a look at the screenshots again I don't want the tropical settings in this game at all...bring back the gritty NOIR!

I'm thinking about this again and I'm just realizing, it has to be a completely different team whom never even actually played the previous two titles, it has to be the case to come up with something like that and claim it's part of the franchise, and even worse, claiming that the character is the same from the previous games? Are you kidding us?

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the first and second Max Payne were developed by Remedy Entertainment, right? And Max Payne 3 is under development by Rockstar Vancouver, who the hell are those guys anyway, the only game they've made was freakin' Bully for the PS2 back in 2006, and they give the Max Payne franchise to THOSE guys?! Could we be more insulted or something?

Jesus Christ... I mean, ok, I didn't particularly liked GTAIV, but I can admit it had good voice acting, it had good scripted moments, it made a decent action game, but I swear, if Rockstar release that thing under the Max Payne name they will never forget it, the fans will let them know, and it's moments like this when at first glance and out of frustration I'm inclined in thinking that it wouldn't even be worth pirating it.

MP1 & 2 has crappy cut scenes and were both waaaaay to short and stupid easy. I remember paying $50 for the 1st one when it came out. I beat it that same day in 1 sitting, I think I died twice. They're 2 of the most overrated games ever IMHO. Voice acting was annoying, MP2 had a few cool & fun levels, but the final boss battle was horrible. I hope I'm not alone when I say I hope MP3 turns out to be longer and better than the first 2. Oh, and they get rid of the lame static comic book cut scenes. I don't see how anyone can have great memories of 2 games that were 5-6 hours long each and so linear Rockstar might as well made them a rail shooter.

The first two games took place at night and had a gritty feel.

What the hell is this?
