Hi guys. Long time reader, newbie poster. Just a quick question -- I'm installing Win XP Corporate Edition on a new computer. The hard drive I put in is 160gb but my XP version is before SP1 so it only recognizes up to 131gb in the setup process. Hence, the partition is 131gb and I have an extra 20 gb sitting around in limbo.

I tried installing my OEM WinXP Pro and it recognized 151 gb during the install... but then it installed WinXP Pro, which I don't want (I want the corporate edition installed as this Pro cd key is being used by my main computer). Is there an easy way to partition the drive to be full size without installing Win XP Corporate? If so, I can partition it then install my OS. I'm hoping I can fix the partition from inside Win XP when it is fully installed but I've never had a HD this big and am not sure if it will work.

Any input will be appreciated and I'll keep this post up to date with how it is going here. Thanks for your time!

You can change the partition setups in windows under control panel--administrative tools--computer management--storage--disk management. I'm not sure if you can change the size of the partition with your booting operating system on it though.

Thanks, amdskip. I think I'll get my friend's Partion Magic or System Comander and see if that works. If anything works, I'll post here.

Edit: Just to clarify, WinXP wouldn't let me change the partition from the Administrative Options.

Looks like I figured one solution out. Basically, I used my XP Pro disk to partition the drive to its full size. Then, I exited out before it asked me to install Windows. Rebooted and put my older XP Cd in, which then didnt have to partition and could simply install onto the drive.

Thanks for your help and time anyway!
