i can't seem to get my XP 1900 over 1740 mhz reliably. Maybe i have my goals set too high. No changes in voltage (up to 1.95 volts) seem to allow it to run past 146 FSB.

I have a Thermalright AX-7 installed. With the processor running at 1.9 volts it gets up to around 112 degrees farenheit, with a case temp of around 84 degrees.
After a bit running Sisoft Sandra's burn in utility it reboots.

If i unlock it will it run at a higher CPU Speed?
Is this about as high as can be expected from this processor? It does not seem to be running too hot. Should i increase the voltage?

Specifics on my machine:

Windows XP Pro
Epox EP-8K3A
AMD XP 1900
Geforce 4 Ti 4600
512 MB OCZ PC3300 DDR RAM
Creative Labs SB Live
Linksys 10/100 lan card

2100+ Speeds from a 1900+ chip is pretty good. Few people have been able to get much above a 2 speed grade boost in their XPs. That's very good. At 145+ FSB, some components may start to flake out, as will some RAM or some mobos. It's really a crap shoot. Some make it past 150. Anyway, if it is the components holding you back, you might be able to get to 1800MHz or so, but you'd be really lucky without watercooling. My 1700+ runs great at 1800+, but at 1900+ it craps out after about an hour. Could be heat, or maybe the mobo...since that's at 146 FSB for me too. Also realize that AMD hasn't even gotten chips to really run well above 2100+, since they haven't released a 2200+ part yet, so bumping your chip to the top AMD chip on the market is pretty good.

Oh, and I would not increase the voltage. There have been quite a few people who have raised the voltage to insane levels (at or around 2V) and they ran great for a month, then just fried themselves....completely dead chip. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable raising the voltage beyond 1.85, but that's me. BTW...your machine is absolutely killer...there's absolutely no way you'd notice much above what you've got now.

With my 1700XP i have gotten it to boot and run in windows at 2000+ speeds, but games and full stability is an issue. My best bet has been 1900, but that was with an old bios on my K7t266pro. Unlocking the multiplier used to be fairly easy. Not sure about the newer XPs though Ive read its a pain in the arse to say the least.

Keep messing with the voltage and stuff till you smell it ;) I wouldnt up the voltage past the 1.95 you have already tried. One thing about unlocking is you wont get any faster cpu speed, but you can run the fsb higher which gives some performance increases. The risk IMO is not worth the reward though.

There has to be a point where you say "enuffs enuff!"

I can run my 1900+ at 1800MHz @150MHz bus on a ECS K76SA, but as jman said the other components can't take the bus speed. When i connect to the net with my 56k modem the machine will reboot within seconds.

I think it will go higher, it's only at 42C at full load on 1.775V but i can't be bothered to unlock it, i run it at 1760MHz, 147MHZ bus speed stable.

All with a Zalman Flower heatsink..

Ive got my amd xp1900 at 1752 mhz at stock voltage. Seem though that no matter how many fans, placement or whatever I cant get cooler temps
I run 33-36 for system and 50-56 for cpu. Any ideas!
