Max HTT issue

Here are my system specs

OCZ 520 Watts PS
Asus A8N-E rev 2 (latest official BIOS)
AMD 64 3700+ San Diego
1GB OCZ Rev 2 memory 2-2-2-5
Geforce 6600 GT

I am OCing my system according to the guide up top (I currently have it at 231 HTT 1:1 Ram ratio) Stable 24 hrs prime.

But I would like to push it further but can't seem to get my max HTT any higher. I lower my multiplier to 6 or 7, set the RAM to 100 but wierd things start to happen once i reach 235 - 240 HTT. My system boots like normal, but hangs when shutting down and monitor seems to shut off for a split second every so often. 3dmark freezes as well.

Is there anything I can do ? Any setting I may have missed ? PEG is disabled.

You're not the only one having issues with HT on the A8N-E. Can you improve your results by lowering the HT multiplier? Some have had better results going back to the 1001 BIOS, but with your new CPU that may not be an option.

I set the HTT multiplier to 3 but the board still acts funny at any HTT over 240. Even with really loose RAM timings, low CPU multiplier, ram set to 100 and more volts. Windows would not boot at HTT 250, it would just bluescreen.

Hopefully a BIOS update will fix these issues, but if you really want to OC, get DFI.

Guess I should be happy with what I have

AMD 3700+ SanDiego @ 2618 Mhz (238HTT) 1.5V
1GB OCZ Platinum Rev 2 @ 2-3-3-8 1T 2.8V 1:1 ratio

My processor is "fast enough" right now unoverclocked, but if ASUS doesn't fix this, I may see another motherboard (quite possibly DFI) in my future. They (ASUS) have been made aware of this issue by other AT'ers who discovered it already, but only time will tell if they actually care to fix this in an upcoming BIOS. 🙁

*tsk**tsk**tsk*

No replacement for DFI when overclocking.

Low max HTT, classic sign of motherboard bottleneck.

3 options:

1. Lower HTT multiplier
2. Try new BIOS
3. DFI Nf4 Ultra-D

I recommend the latter.

Guess DFI really is the best for O/C

I know that probably does not help you, but I would do what Matt2 suggests. Maybe you can return that Asus board or ebay it or something.

Once we can actually do #1 (which will hopefully be enabled in the future by #2), then #3 will be less of a concern. If ASUS decides not to fix this, then #3 may be our only option. 🙁
