/\ details about the contest, with a link to the MySpace page
where they'll be doing the live webcast.

http://www.lajollasurf.org/images/pacne24.gif

/\ picture of the North Pacific, Friday PM. waves juuuust
rolling in, long-period waves getting to Point Reyes, 10 feet
at 20 seconds. long-period waves move a lot faster and
jack a lot bigger.

http://www.lajollasurf.org/buoys.html

/\ California coast buoys.

http://seaboard.ndbc.noaa.gov/...page.php?station=46059

/\ your tax dollars at work. Buoy #46059 about 200 miles
west of San Fran. as of Friday PM showing 15 feet @ 17 seconds.

won't be the biggest waves, but it should be a Really Good Show.

if it's foggy, it'll still be classic, but, not so easy to watch.

I'd love to see it going off up there. I've been surfing on and off for years here in SoCal and I've seen some really cool documentaries on big wave surfing.

I'd never paddle out in waves like that let alone in that area. It's too cold and too rocky...not to mention too big. :D Biggest waves I've ever surfed were a foot or two overhead.

I have a lot of respect for guys who would even paddle out in those waves.

Edit-Thanks for the links. I'll check them out tomorrow.

I used to go fishing by the rocks near Mavericks all the time. I can tell you the waves become insanely large over there. I found out the hard way when I took my kayak around the corner and almost got knocked off by a sneaker wave on a relatively calm day.

Tonight's news report predicted 25 footers for tomorrow...we'll see. It's often difficult to know in advance just how big they will actually get. Weather is for overcast with a chance of showers. That may hold the fog off...again, only time will tell.

as of Saturday AM
http://www.lajollasurf.org/ptreyes.html

the Java Spectral Chart, shows amount of energy coming from
different directions.

the surf was about 17 feet @ 17 seconds a few hours ago,
now reading 12 feet @ 17 seconds.

http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USCA0459.html

Half Moon Bay weather report, AM clouds, PM sun.

the Logistics crew know exactly what they're doing,
the competitors are flying in from all around the world.
if the waves are smallish for Maverick's, maybe we'll
see some tricks.

i asked a GP about broken eardrums yesterday. that's
a fairly common affliction for big-wave surfers. he said
99% of the time, the ear-drum heals.

http://www.nelscottreef.org/Nelscott07/index.php

Nelscott Reef tow-in, put on by the one and only John Forse,
i think, went off yesterday. well, the first half of the contest
did.

plus, there's a big red PacMan blob headed straight for Hawaii.
they're talking about running the Eddie Aikau competition on
Sunday. a few Buoys got knocked off-line by swells in December.

http://www.quiksilver.com/frames/bigwave0708.aspx

i was thinking some of the competitors would go for a "3-fer" -
Nelscott on Friday, Maverick's on Saturday, Eddie on Sunday.

typing F-5. G*dd*mnit, i did it twice. )

control - F5 helps to do a complete refresh of the browser.

Those are actually the bull kelp bulbs floating on the water. Basically underwater trees attached to the rocks below.

I'm watching it now. The medium quality stream has no audio, so I had to shut down the torrents and watch the high quality one. Twiggy has had a couple nice runs, including one where he vanished in the rough bit of the wave but rode it out.

what browser & media player are you using ? i allowed the
upgrade for Firefox, and am using WMP 10 for Explorer.

neither are coming through. i listened to the Pipe Masters
just fine, similar live streaming technology.

Firefox w/ noscript and all the most recent addons. I just clicked the 'click here to continue and not install blah bla' thing, since I figured it was just noscript blocking it.

I have 2.0.0.11

Try reloading the page maybe? could be they are just crappy and getting overloaded.

Actually, you're not missing much. The announcers are idiots

9 minutes left in final semi-final heat

God, no kidding. I had to turn off the audio.

"That wave was insame ! He just made a sick drop !
Here comes a set wave. Ginormous ! Awesome !
That wave was sick ! What an insane ride !
Awesome ! Talent on the Beach !"

... after 5 minutes of Pseudo-Bro-Speak, i was
feeling sick. i think those guys had some Valley Girl
blood in them.

they should play that soundtrack at Guantanamo,
if they really want to torture people.

Vista won. i turned on my Vista computer in time
to catch the final. could not get it working on XP.

what was a little odd, was, i didn't see the announcers
flashing any shaka's.

i would have preferred an actual visiting pro,
like Liam McNamara. most surfers do not talk
like that.
