Good God... How is it this guy can find the absolute trashiest low-class guests (and audience members) each and every show he does? With the same predictable story lines ending with somebody running off the stage behind the set. The guy is nothing but garbage wrapped in skin, and I want him dead!! ;)

Funny thing is I remember as a kid when Maury did straight news for WTTG in Washington DC. His father was a local legend as a sportswriter for the Washington Post. He seems to have descended into a sleazy niche he is comfortable in.

All of the talk show hosts started booking low-class trash when they saw Jerry Springer doing it and getting huge ratings. It is a sad commentary on our society, to be sure. At one time, I believe Maury was at least semi-respectable.

Yep he started out in news here then hosted a daytime talk/variety show called Panorama in the late 60's through early 70's.

They are actors, paid or unpaid. Think south park.

I think one episode featured the lovely Julia Bond :)

Speaking of talk show hosts and their past, wasn't Jerry Springer the mayor of Cincy at one time?

I completely forgot about Maury until they showed a clip of it during Bridesmaids. Seeing some wacko dancing after finding out he was not the Father of some ho's kid did make me chuckle, but there is no way I could actually sit and watch that show.

I always figured Maury's show existed so there would be an outlet for the surplus of people who wanted to be on Springer but didn't make the cut.

He sure was!

Wasn't he busted for passing a bad check to a prostitute? I always thought that was kind of funny because who knew hookers took checks and how dumb does a politician have to be to write one to a hooker.

Jerry Springer as a person, and as a "real radio" style host is not too shabby. He had a political talk radio show for some time on Air America. He was fairly middle of the road, just a bit to the left if I recall. He is nothing at all like the tv show, which he claims is just something that makes money. I'm pretty sure his show was right after or right before Al Frankens.

That being said I first really watched MP at the breakroom at this job i worked at a factory. The chickens in there would come up at 10:45+ to see if "he was the daddy or not". And they literally clucked at the screen.

Yep, very popular, too. In fact, the guy is a legend. He's actually something of a stand-up dude, everyone loved the hell out of him. His senate, iirc, campaign fell apart after some scandal involving a bounced check.

He has a pretty astonishing bio, actually.

He was also the longtime anchorman in Cinci.

I remember when he was on Current Affair. A poor man's 60 Minutes but still respectable.

same. Connie Chung--his wife, was the anchor at CBS during those days.

Yep, she used to be a respectable journalist. Then she did that awful thing with Maury on NBC's news channel. Hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Maury really is a relic of the late 90s. I used to watch it in high school for shits and giggles. What teenage boy wouldn't find that hilarious? It's all smoke and mirrors. The people on there have to be actors, as they were on Springer. It's a bit of a mystery how it's stayed on so long after the daytime trash talk era ended.
