What a disgrace to the US!! :| Did you see these idiots showboating around the podium and taking off their shirts and doing "model" poses? Dancing and prancing around in the 2nd and 3rd place finishers face. Yelling "And I didn't have to pay for this Gold medal." All 4 of them were doing it.

If I find a link, I'll post it

I wasn't too good, that's for sure. Green did apologize quite a bit in this interview I saw.

Green is the color of freshness and renewal, and has been in Western culture since the earliest of times. The word "green" comes from the Old English gréne, in turn from grêne in Old Frisian and various related Germanic languages. Reappearing in springtime, after the dull, seemingly colorless winter, it became a symbol of fertility and growth, of abundance and external life. The color green represents harmony, nature and radiates a feeling of fullness. When thoughts of nature come to mind, green, being the color of grass, trees and plants, 99% of the time is the dominant color of one's mental images. On the visible spectrum green lies sandwiched in between blue and yellow.

I've noticed a lot of poor sportsmanship amongst the American team this time around. Just today, I witnessed:

1) The American 4x100 make faces in front of the camera, dance on the podium during the national anthem, and wear the American flag as bandanas.

2) An American wrestler push away a Canadian wrestler's extended hand (for a handshake) after the Canadian beat the American in overtime to proceed to the finals.

3) An American 1200 m female runner, throw herself to the asphalt after she realized that she would lose the race and not get any medals....later claiming to be dehydrated...

4) A few days ago I saw an American female hurdler literally give up after she too realized she wouldn't get any medals.

I think these members' behaviour is truly appalling. They were neither good winners or losers. They copped out of events while in progress when they realized they couldn't win, which is about the most disrespectful thing you can do to yourself let alone the rest of the competition. And in the case of the 4x100 team what the hell can you say? If they were Canadian, I'd request that whatever little public funding they received be withdrawn - those aren't good representatives of a country and they definitely aren't winners either.

Didn't see #2, sounds like a real jackass though. But are you sure about #3, I've only heard she actually was dehydrated, not that she only claimed to be...?

She really was dehydrated...did you see her come across the finish line?? Se had to be carried off in a wheelchair. How would you like to run out there in 100 degree+ temperatures?

Ok someone has to defend them:). What they did was wrong for sure. But keep in mind they were a very frustrated team with how they have performed the past few years when Americans had traditionally dominated the relays.

A few days ago I saw an American female hurdler literally give up after she too realized she wouldn't get any medals.

Are you talking about Devers? I wouldn't say thats what happened, as it was only I think the 4th hurdle and everyone still had a chance. It did look like she pulled the hammy.

That does little to dispel the worldwide reputation of the 'ugly American' behaviour. I was almost expecting them to moon the crowd or pull down their pants to shake their bon bon and show how manly they think they are. :Q

Even Greene's way of walking during the 100m sprint events, swinging from side to side like a monkey while sticking out his tongue... Pure class!!!

I think that a lifetime of rap has rotted their brains. Unless it's a side effect of blood doping. ;)

Hmm, well i just saw what everyone was talking about with the Men's relay team and it wasn't THAT bad. I think the excessive "modeling" during their victory lap COULD have been acceptable, BUT their behavior ON THE MEDAL STANDS, was just horrible and shameful. Completley ruins their victory.

It really ruins the win, though not for them I guess. When the winner has class, you're proud for them and for your country too, but with that arrogant and distasteful behavior, it's only embarassing.

NFS4,

I have a hard time believing that a world class athlete allows herself to become dehydrated, and then collapses 95% of the way into a 5 minute race, coinciding with her inability to keep her spot in the lead. Call me cynical, but if you watch the race again (thanks to the CBC and NBC, and multiple replays I got to watch it about 6 times). You'll notice that it was a clearly intentional fall. I think she was embarrassed about her actions afterwards (as I would if I pulled a stunt like that). It's easy to just write it off as dehydration...treatment doesn't involve any drugs...just an IV with saline solution. She also didn't exhibit any signs of dehydration - which in this case would have been severe muscle cramping. But I guess I'll have to buy this story as posed by NBC...didn't hear it on the CBC though and they usually are pretty unbiased about reporting these things.

Who give a fuk - its just a game, none of its real, afterall its just TV.

As long as Nike don't mind they'l have no comeback. Anyway Nike like that sort of stuff as it encourages rapped out gang bangers go mug people so they can by a pair off joggers just like Greene's for $200 or whatever.

Besides I've yet to meet an Aussie who even knows the words to their own nation anthem, & its the same with most nationalities.

I don't think that most of the athletes feel that way:| Anyway, members of the American squad to get up their and disgrace themselves and their country in front of the whole world is pitiful. This isn't the WWF

Dabanshee,

Most Canadians know the words to the official version of the National Anthem, many in both official languages. This may have to do with Hockey Night In Canada & La Soirée du Hockey, amongst others. A lot fewer people know the extended poem on which it was based or the 4 unofficial versions.

These can be found here and ici for the French version.

O Canada (Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier, Robert Stanley Weir & Calixa Lavallée)

NFS4 - The same person who proudly posted threads about the USA "pooping" on the other countries is "outraged" about some excessive celebration from 4 men who just won a gold medal?

Look at these threads you started:

Now look in the mirror and ask what the root cause of the "excessive" celbration was.

I thought it was disgusting. It just gives the rest of the world another example of the "ugly Americans" to point to. I don't buy the excuse that it was just exuberance. That would be understandable for their behavior on the track after the victory, but not on the medal stand while the Star Spangled Banner was playing. Most Americans would say these guys had no dignity, no class, and were an embarrassment to the country on such an international stage, but we can't get away from the fact that they do represent this country to some extent.

People complain about the entertainment industry in the context of violence and sex, but I think the way this sort of attitude and behavior is glorified in American television is much worse. It's not just the WWF; it's commercials and TV shows and professional sports depicting the rude pushy moronic jerk as the winner or hero. It's a country that glorifies celebrity and materialism and values character less and less.

These idiots do represent the dumbing of America.

P.S. Dabanshee, if you don't know of any Australians who know the words to the national anthem, then you didn't see the medal ceremony when Cathy Freeman won the 400m. You could hear the entire stadium singing the anthem loud and proud. It was actually quite moving.

Like GL I also find it very hard to believe a world-class athlete could suffer from dehydration so early in a race.
