So I've been planning to buy a new gaming PC in a mATX case for some time. I had actually decided to buy it last spring but decided against it as I normally don't play that much over the summer.
The build contain these components:
i7 860 (no serious overclocking planned, it should just be stable)
Ati Radeon HD5850 (SLI not planned/wanted)
Intel G2 SSD
8 GBs of RAM
I had originally decided on the Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 based on a lot of favorable reviews and the fact that I regard it as a very mature board that is hopefully free of issues.
However now I have the feeling that it might be getting a little too old and that a newer board might be a better choice. As I'm getting a G2 intel SSD, 600 Gb/s SATA doesn't matterthat much, and in my oppinion USB3 isn't really a "must have" either. But of course I wouldn't mind having the features in the board I end up with.
Also, I have read something about how using either a 6Gb/s SATA device or a USB3 device drops the PCIe port to 8x in some motherboards, and that some (Gigabyte boards?) make a periodical chirping noise.
Recommendations and/or links to comparison reviews will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
