there are no geometric issues with the board. a 16x slot is a 16x slot. you will have to measure your case, however. make sure no 3.5 inch devices are in line with your slot, or a drive bay or something

yeah id be getting a new case... what about a desktop style case that I would turn vertically or something... meaning that even though the matx case will still fit a big card, the case wont. For example cases from: Apevia, Antec, In Win, Minuet

It is very case specific as to whether it will fit. I had my 8800 GTS 512MB in an Apevia X-Qpack2 BITD. I've also had large cards (9800 GTX+, GTX 260 and GTX 285) in various mATX cases such as the small Silverstone towers, Antec NSK3480, Cooler Master 541 and 341.

One thing to keep in mind is that on some micro ATX motherboards a dual slot graphics card will cover up some SATA ports, so you have to choose the board carefully.

dang..man too much to think about...ok, jk...all I want and I know this is the GPU section and it started with a GPU question.. but all I want is to do an upgrade of my case and mobo and go on the matx route.... it has to fit my card though and it would be awesome if it was like piano black....but then I need a new mobo that will fit my dual core since ill just OC that. So im summary here is what im looking for..

Also I forgot about the dual slot... i forgot that mine is (i think) so I dont need the SLI I never used it and probably wont... and I will still have my sound card, wireless card and hmm what else oh yeah my

matx case, one that will for my 8800gts and preferably piano black
maxt board for my duo core since ill OC it...I never have before, but ill bump it up
ill go with 4 gigs ram ill just get two more of what I have

So what should I get first....case, mobo, guess ill have ot get both.

Thanks!!!!!

If you get the case, you will have to get the mobo. If you get the mobo first, you can use it in your existing ATX case. All depends on your budget.

For motherboard perhaps this Foxconn board might do the trick. Even with a dual slot board you will have at least 4 SATA ports free, plus two PCI slots for your sound and wireless cards (if they're PCI). The board supports overclocking and while it isn't a hardcore overclocker, it can overclock okay. It has four RAM slots unlike some cheaper boards.

I actually posted a review of that board here: Zap's Mini Review: Foxconn G45M-S

You want a piano black micro ATX case? There's a Rosewill case like that but I don't know if it will fit your card. This Antec NSK3480 will fit and is somewhat glossy black, but has a silver face. It has a PSU limitation of 5.5" and is kind of pricey, but the included PSU is a decent one and can probably run your rig just fine. There are a lot of other black mATX cases, but probably not glossy.

Zap...great info, thanks.... Il llook at the board when I get home in a bit. The case is nice, but my system is completely black except for the tower, so im trying to finish with a black case....my 24" dell is black and that is what got me on the black kick... ill look though after I see the board...thanks for the measurements. much appreciated....

question..i just looked at the mobo...how is having a board with HMDI going to benefit me? Kind of new to hdmi being on a board if its for the oboard video then my board is much better so would it go unused or just for video editing etc?

Thanks

Since you'll be using a separate graphics card, it won't benefit you a single bit.

If you can live without the black case being shiney, look at the Cooler Master Elite 341.

Rosewill is Newegg's "house brand." Their products are rebrands of other products (like most other "manufacturers" out there, they don't actually "manufacture" anything). That case is indeed fairly budget and will fit your parts. The included PSU is probably not very good. IIRC the case uses a 92mm exhaust fan and the front panel is pretty restrictive so it doesn't have the best ventilation and will have to rely on side vents.

The same chassis is available under other brands such as Foxconn and Apex.

Have you considered a normal black case? You are severely limiting yourself if you insist on getting a "glossy black" case. Besides, your optical drive won't match.

excellent point on the black not matching...I think, however, that the Rosewill has an optica ldriver bay cover with teh two black drive bays in has..in that case it would be cool... i never touch the case once i have it for fingerpritns etc arent an issue...however ill check out the other brands you mentioned too...ill just use my 400w antec in it instead...i ave heard that te fan is loud though. I also have this black glass mirror desk so i was looking at that rosewill case... ill look at those others also..thanks again!!!!

Update:

Dang now I see these cases that all arent bad: suggenstions?
