Hi all,

Wondering how much would one spend on a good King mattress and boxspring????

I see some advertised from $1500- $2000. I was looking at the Serta Evening Star sleeper at Sleepy's which is about $1,800 on sale. :Q Tried it out and it feels great. Only down side is the $$$.

Would you spend that much since you'll have to have to sleep on it when you go to bed every night???

Thoughts

Go to an outlet, or a discount place. I got a great bed for around 1K, it was on sale because the mattress was a little lighter than the box spring.

We did a lot of shopping around looking for a mattress. It was especially hard because we did not want a box spring since we have a platform bed. We tried out a bunch in local stores and we really liked the Simmons Beautyrests because of the individually pocketed coils. We ended up getting a really good deal on a King which was on sale for like $475 at a nearby Target-like store (Fred Meyer), and you didn't have to buy the whole set. It's great, I always sleep well with no back pain and I don't feel it if my fiancee tosses and turns in the night.

Walmart.com has some good prices on Beautyrest mattresses and the shipping is reasonable. Even the low-end Beautyrests are still good mattresses.
Also, Costco has good prices on Sealy Posturepedic mattresses plus they'll have a sale every once in a while.

BJ's (i.e. Costco) has king mattresses for 299.99 :)

I just looked at them the other day. Looked...and kept walking..but i still looked.

I believe that a mattress is something you use a ton and really should put at least *some* money into.

I paid roughly 1200 for my Full size mattress..which was probably a waste of money to some respect...but i definitely have no regrets seeing as how i HATE to leave it in the morning

Don't buy a mismatched set. It will reduce the longevity of the mattress as the mismatched box springs weren't designed for that mattress.
There's a reason so many of these are around, usually returns or defects.

Costco has good prices for mattresses and you are guaranteed not to get a mismatched set. Only problem is that they don't take away your old one.

Also stay away from those places that offer 30day sleep guarantee. Chances are you will be buying one of those returned mattresses.
(Saw this on one of those 48hr special reports.)

They also reported on how you go to the store and buy the higher end model, but actually get shipped the cheaper one. By using the same fabric on the outside and using their own stickers, most people won't notice. Because each chain has their own naming convention it's almost impossible to track.

Dont forget to get a split boxspring so that if you have to move it upstairs/downstairs or to a different house you wont have to worry about it not fitting.

I feel that the mattress is the most important thing to a good nights sleep and you WILL be lying on it everynight so should one really skimp out on quality. I would also like something that has a sweet spot between price and performance.

We have been talking about getting a replacement for our 8 yr old Beautyrest queen pillowtop for the longest time. It started to sag real bad in the middle. The wife and I decided that we will not be getting another pillowtop. We tried a few out but there are just too many choices to choose from that we can go bonkers doing so.

Just a thought.

How large is your bedroom? I thought about a King size but the trouble with them is they take up so much damned room. Not to mention that all we have are queen sized sheets and bedding so we would need to buy all new bedding as well as a new bed frame.

Don't forget to check out the memory foam thread... I'm constantly tempted by those things, but think I'll try the pillow first.

Trust me, it is not as big as it seems. I had a queen and it seems like an extra foot at most with my crude measurement.

My experience is you get what you pay for in mattresses. We have purchsed 5 total. 2 were below $500 and weak, they lasted about a year before starting to lose shape. 2 were around 800 and we liked those but passed them down to family members and the last one we bought was 1800 and it is about 5 years old and still as comfortable today as the first day we had it.

Was it worth it? For us it was, only because we had the 1800 to spend. I have heard of people paying 5K for a bed.... for them it is probably worth it since they most likely can afford it... for us... it wouldn't be.

I wish I would have researched a little more before buying. I bought a cheaper mattress and it started sagging in the middle after about a year. Sometimes I'll wake up with back pains if I happen to roll over onto my back or stomach during the night.:frown:

You get what you pay for. You also need to think about how long you want to keep the bed.

We have a Queen size one form SelectComfort (the air inflating beds with the Sleep Number stuff). Thsy are guaranteed for like 10+ years so we know that we won't be buying anything new for a long time. If you get some PoS mattress from WalMart or something, you'll probably be buying a new one in a few years.

Sheesh. My mattress was $100 and I sleep great every night. Guess it pays not to be a picky sleeper:)

We bought a Sealy Posturpedic Mira Loma Queen from CostCo B&M for $339 January 2002.

It retails for several hundred more, it's worth every last penny plus CostCo has the best return policy.

My local sam's has some pretty nice king sized sertas for just a little over 500 bucks. I'm about to buy one of the queens, they ran about $470. The king is just too big for my apartment.

costco has a good mattress for a good price

if you really feel like you need to spend more, get a set in the $500 to $1000 range

paying more than $1000 for a king set is only for Rich People

Isn't the coil count the big difference.

I helped my mom with her new mattress and it was expensive and had 1300 coils

the mattresses at Sams were much cheaper but had about 500 coils.

so more coils = better quality/price?

IMHO, I feel buying a good mattress is important since it can affect your sleep, posture and back which in turn can affect your whole outlook in life. Who the heck wants a freaked up back or worse.

I guess price difference is what sets apart the good ones from the not so good ones and how much support one offer versus the other ones.
