I just bought a mattress, I did about 2 months worth of research. I ended up buying a mattress from mattress city in Sunnyvale, CA. Believe me when I say the mattresses are MARKED UP like crazy. The mattress I got was retailing for 1200 bux and I was able to convince him to give it to me for only 575 out the door (includes tax and delivery, frame and box spring) it was a sealy posturepedic......... damn forgot the name but it was queen size.

Here is one thing I found out, search the web in "mattress advice" and it will bring you to alot of different and useful sites. Its weird, the mattress community (the sales guys) dont post prices on the web. wanna know why? b/c they change the name of the mattresses from place to place so it makes it harder for you to compare. A sealy "corona" at one place, will be called a sealy "bermuda" at another place. A few key words to ask are "coil count" and "working turns". Search the web and listen to some of the advice people give, it'll save you sooo much money. Before i did the research, I probably would have paid 1100 for that bed, now i know better. It also depends on how good you are at bargaining prices and if you're willing to play the "game" good luck!!

Here are a few links to get you started.

Sealy Posturepedics are pretty nice. It depends what you are looking for, there are all different kinds of firmness and such...

Sounds very familiar. I bought a mattress last weekend... retail price was $1399, the lady offered it to me for $600, and I talked her down to $550 for everything (tax, delivery, frame, box spring). Sealy Posturepedic, queen size with pillowtop. Mattress salespeople are VERY pushy, and I turned down four before deciding on this one. Sealy is the way to go!

Peace,
Dezign

Yeah, you're totally right Akebona. We were looking for Mattress's a few years back and went into Sleepys. That was worse than buying a car. My parents got fed up and called 1-800-Mattress and they loved it. Sleepys was a pain, saying would only deliver it on Fridays and that it can come anywhere from 8am to 7pm. They might have changed their ways but who knows...

What's your budget?

Before you do anything check out your local CostCo B&M (Brookfield, Milford, Norwalk, or Waterbury) for the Sealy Posturpedic Mira Loma which sells for around $400 - $500 for the Queen sized. I'm telling ya this mattress is not only plush but a nice medium firm, it's not too soft or saggy then again it's not as hard as Subway bread, it's just right. You get the box spring and mattress, all that's left is the frame which you can use your existing or buy one for around $30.

The mattress sellers have the Rosetta stone in a notebook that tells them all the different names for the same mattress. If you could get a hold of that, it would be very easy to comparison shop. Otherwise you have to get it outta them with your keen negotiating skills.

Don't take any crap. Mattress salesmen for the most part are slimy worm-type troglodytes, very eager to screw you over. Many of them are rude and pushy. I walked out of more than one store because of this.

I spent about a month researching online and driving around on weekends, until I settled on my kickass Serta Perfect Night. It was expensive but I love it. You have to lay down on the mattresses to see what works for you. Most places have a 30 day exchange policy but I doubt many people actually take them up on it.
