matrox video cards

They do not "bytes" for 3D.

I've been running my G400 for over a year and it plays everything I've thrown at it just fine. UT, Q3, Rogue Spear, HL....

I've got the G400 Max in my non-gaming machine and we are thinking about getting the 550's here at work for our new workstations. The absolute greatest 2d quality you can find...Period.

3d speed...welll.....Its nothing to write home about, but if 2d is your game, then the MAtrox should do nicely.

If most of what you'll be doing is image editing and 2D stuff, it's perfect. However, I would wait a few more weeks for the new G550 to come out which should debut at around $125 or so.

I only play Diablo II and NHL2001 and my G450 is more than sufficient for it. The clarity it provides is simply the best once paired with a great monitor.

thanks!! i need to build a pc for my landlady and she does this 2D stuff....the pc's i have built are only for gaming so i have no clue as far as 2D goes.

thanks again guys!!!

I recently replaced a G400 32 MB DH OEM version with a G450 32 MB DH Retail version.

I previous had a Mystique G200 8 MB Retail version before that on my productivity/work system.

For 2D they are unrivaled, excellent in all resolutions (I use the Dual Head Feature on my 21"/15" setup).

I believe the G450 core is .18u as compared to the G400's .25u core so it runs cooler. TV controller and dual ramdacs are all integrated into the G450 core as opposed to the G400.

The regular G400 does run a little faster in 3D games b/c of the G400's SDRAM as opposed to the G450's 64-bit DDRAM. But 3D games aren't your cup of tea so this issue is null and void.
