I am looking to upgrade my system to one that is solid. I have an epox 8k7a and an athlon 1.2(266) and 256 meg of PC2100 ram on the way, All I need now is a new vid card which I will get in September. I want a good 2d card(doesn't really matter as I have a 17" that I never take over 1024x768 as I can't stand refresh rates below 85hz). I am pretty happy with the gaming performance from my TNT2 as all I play at the moment is UT which I get an average of 40+ fps. Do you guys think a G550 would be good. I like the idea of using my TV like a second monitor for DIVX/DVD/GAMES

Matrox makes great cards and their drivers are extremely stable but...
They haven't really done anything too knew with the G550, or G450 for that matter. I would say get either a Radeon LE (best choise for the price) or a Kyro(1) which are very cheap now a days. You'll get good 2D with both of those and gaming will be a hell of a lot better than the Matrox G550, which still has that damn 64bit memory bus like the G450 has.
