matrox RT.X100 extreme pro....is it worth the price???

i was reading on the matrox website bout 2 months ago and found the matrox rt.x100. my dad runs a public access channel on the local cable system and was in the market for a good video card with a good video output. the card promised wysiwyg video output(to external source). the card comes bundled with all kinds of software and dongles and a hefty price tag($999 usd). i requested the dvd demo the offerd but have not recived it. does anyone know anyhing bout this video card

It might be good for video editing, but last time I checked, only nvidia or ati cards are any good for gaming. It depends on how you're gonna use the card.

yeah thats what i want that card for. he also does alot of powerpoint slide shows and wants a good video out and i don't want to spend that much if the card doesn't deliver. (we have a ati raedon 9600 all-in-wonder)

Powerpoint slide shows hardly warrant a high end workstation graphics card.

Just get a decent cheap ATI or Nvidia based card. It will be just fine.

Yeah, for PowerPoint, no video card upgrade is going to do anything for you, no matter what the cost. As Gamingphreek said, just pick up a mid-range ATI or NVIDIA card, such as a Radeon 9800 Pro (or All-in-Wonder, if thats what you need) or a GeForce 6600\GT. There is no need to pay for a high end card.

The Matrox RT.X100 is not a "video card" like an ATI or NVidia card. The Matrox card is a video editing accelerator. When used with video editing applications, such as Adobe Premiere, it provides real-time MPEG2 encoding for editing video, and a host of other video editing features.

You'd use the Matrox RT.X100 if you're doing high-end video editing, for DVD creation and other stuff like that. You put this Matrox PCI card in your system and hook a TV to it. Plus you'd also have a normal video card with a VGA monitor hooked to it.

The Matrox RT.X100 is not a replacement for a normal video card... it's added to a system specifically for video editing.

It sounds like you just need a regular video card, with video out.
