Extreme Tech article. Take a look at their benchmarks closely. They screwed up every single time by saying they ran a GeForce4 4200 at 4X FSAA. It should read GeForce4 4600 instead. Still, the Parhelia does very well in antialiasing. Otherwise it gets trounced.

I am really, really underwhelmed by this card :( Being a tech nerd / engineer / ict teacher i love good technology and this matrox is the most over-hyped underperforming card I have seen in a while. The card is badly in need of a die shrink but as 0.13 is only 15% smaller will a corresponding 15% core speed do any good I dont think so. (if my sums are wrong flame me)

Yeah I wouldn't even touch this card with a ten foot pole. I mean come on 400 bucks. I mean you could get a Ti 4200 and still have some cash left over for an XP2200!

Yeah, it does need a die shrink and GPU speed bump. O/C the memory won't help at all on this card. I am surprised that someone did not try Powerstrip on this card and see what it could do. Maybe Powerstrip does not support it yet.

At any rate, I have not seen it pop up on PriceWatch or Techbargains yet. Most new cards/CPUs/etc show up a week or two early on PriceWatch, even if all they are listing is ETA. In this case, no one has it listed. I.E. it is not available and won't be for a while longer.

It's true that it's not up to what we were expecting, but it's clocked really low for memory and core.
Wait til the revision comes out and it has higher core/mem and then you will think otherwise.

I think they wanted to give you quality over speed (fps) and in this they have succeeded.
This is also considering they are on their first driver release too. Give it time but don't buy in with the first offering.

You mean the Parhelia 2? Can't wait that long. The NV50 will be out then. I remember getting burned on their last "3D" card <G400.. cough!> when it first came out.

Its sad when all the hype was good and people were like "we got word that matrox has benched the Parhelia and it blew away the fastest contenders." What a load of SH*T! Its an ok card .... yet I will also not touch it with a 10 .... make that 100foot pole .... yet im waiting for the sexy R300 :D
