Matrox 'millenium' G200 or ATI expert 2000?

I'm 'upgrading' 🙂 this pci mach64 card that I'm using in my server to something that can hit higher resolutions and colours. I can get both the G200 marvel 8meg (39.oo CND) or the ATI Expert 2000 32meg (64,oo CND) right by my work. I'm thinking that the 32 meg is really good on the ATI card, but I know that the matrox card has the best 2D and that is really what I'm buying it for. The matrox card is also cheaper, maybe if someone knows a reason for me not to get it, let me know, thanks. I am not gonna game on this system, it's a linux box and I'm gonna get X running on it, just want high colour and res. Oh, maybe it's not compatible with linux or something, let me know, thanks.
<EDIT>
It's not the Marvel, it's the G200 millenium!!! Is there a big differnce?
</EDIT>

I would definitely get the Matrox card in your situation. ATi's pre-Radeon drivers absolutely blow. And if ATi's drivers sucked so bad under Windows, you can only imagine how bad they are under Linux. 😱

You're replacing PCI card with an AGP card. Hope you've got an
AGP clost for it. I've been running an ATI Xpert 2000 for about a
year and a half now. Very good 2D and OK 3D (I don't run many high
end games). Been very satisfied with it..........

i used to have the G200 and now it's in my g/f's comp... quite kickass on the 2D and i never had a problem w/ the drivers (win98)... u might wanna check for linux drivers and/or issues with them before you get it though

I concur with BigD.. the maxtor 2D quality is awesome, and its linux support is simply top notch. You won't have much 3d in linux anyways =).

If you can get the Marvel G200 for 39 quid brand new, you might as well pick it up. That's the higher-end board of the G200 line with the break-out box.

Anand did a review on the board itself here.

39 quid? True. 7 bones? Even better...

Thanks all. Looks like I'll be getting the Matrox, which is good cause it's the cheaper of the two.
Rankor, er, isn't quid UK??? The card is actually 39 Canadian, so that's more like, 5 quid 😉 or about 7 US 😉

It's not the Marvel actually, like i said originally (oops) it's the millenium. Is there a big difference? It's the 8 meg model. Thanks.

the marvel is a millenium card, with an onboard tv-tuner and capture, and a high quality one too.
i would go for the matrox

Well, I ended up getting the matrox G200 4meg! They were out of the 8 meg and weren't getting anymore. 4 meg should be enough for just 2d.. like, linux destop? Enlightenment? I think the res is good on it, but I have no specs. They dont' have a 4 meg one on the Matrox site, maybe it's the eight meg..
