"Matrox leaves the gaming industry?for now" - Anand in his most recent article

I feel a nip in the air 🙁

Next summer it will be here. It will be out of date by then. How freaking lame. Pick up the goddamn ball MAtrox.

zippy -

Don't expect logic from a company with headquarters in Quebec 😉

I feel pretty bad about it too...

I've never even considered ATI or nVidia; it would be either Rampage or G800 for me. Now looks like the choice has been made beforehand...

:Q

🙁

Matrox couldn't really do much. NVIDIA took a bunch of their engineers and so that pushed the G800 WAY back.. I question how well they'll be able to compete once it is released. I've heard rumors that it isn't DX8 compliant either.. Who knows though.. We'll just have to wait and see.

This little hint blows more goats then i don't know what. With all this time till next summer this card better blow doors off the hinges! I am so pissed now i don't know what to replace this v3 with.:|

FVCKING MATROX CAN SUCK MY D(CK. THEY JUST LOST A FVCKING CUSTOMER... where's the Twinhead?

What was the big deal with the G800 anyway? I don't understand how anyone could get so worked up over vaporware?? What am I missing?

j/k... damn... you know how bad I feel paying ~$220 for an old video card like the G400 max? ARGGHHH... maybe I should just buy two video cards...

<< Nvidia is making me mad >>

Don't blame nVidia...if Matrox can't compete in the gaming sector then it's THEY'RE problem. I don't see nVidia pointing a gun to their head.

Matrox just needs to move themselves out of outrageously expensive Quebec to somewhere where they can afford to pay the salaries they need to offer to attract and hold talented engineers. They addressed some of the problem when they set up shop here in the States, but they need to go full bore if they want to compete. The video card market is not a genteel one.

I've been arguing that all through the summer with the folks at MURC. Either they weren't going to release the card, or if they did, it would be over a generation behind when it does, so as a gamer, it wouldn't be worth it.

I was a BIG fan of the G400. Great 3D, AWESOME 2D, and AWESOME driver support and the folks at MURC. I had 2 G400 because i liked it so much (and my brother got one too)... and held onto those cards for 4 months longer hoping that in the Fall they would release the G800. Instead, the G450 was released, which was nothing but an upgrade of the G400, not worth replacing. so i went Radeon, and couldn't be happier.

I went over to the MURCs to see what their take was on this, and this was what i pulled up on their front page:

<< The G450 a flagship product, now there's something to give you sleepless nights. Sure games aren't everything but this is starting to getting worrying. I'd like to be able to put a few of your fears to rest but I don't get told anything. Hmm now let me see... NURC, no, AURC, no, 3URC? >>

Even their most fanatical of user base are worried. What a shame that they've disappointed soooo many loyal users.

Like S3, Matrox appears to be another victim of the vicious 3D chipset wars. Well...the strong survive. Matrox is doing what they have to...concentrating on their core competency which has always been business/pro "mostly" 2D accelerators. Matrox actually answers to its stockholders, not the fans/consumers.

Also by that time, the Radeon 2 MAXX will be around, and 3dfx's Mosaic technology will be just around the corner.

Well if you read Anand's 2001 Video Card Guide, you'll see that MAXX is alive and well and is being perfected.

but if you read that, there are a lot of wholes and misconceptions as well, so it leaves a lot to question. 🙂
