Matrox G450: What perceptible difference does 32 MB video RAM make vs. 16 MB?

More generally, what determines how much video RAM is needed (non-gaming)?

screen resolution?

color depth?

refresh rate?

other?

I remember there was some formula that determined max screen resolution + color depth based on your vcard memory. Unfortunately, I don't know where it is. What I do know is that 16MB is more than enough for just about any resolution for 32bit color depth.

I don't believe refresh rate is affected at all by VRAM. I think that has more to do with RAMDAC and what your monitor supports.
