Matrox G450 AGP DDR dualhead DB15 $35 shipped

this is my first hot deals post. please let me know if there's anything good/bad/wrong

MicroXpress has a Matrox G450 AGP graphics card for $30, pricewatch says $35 shipped
AGP, 16mb ddr, 2 db15 SVGA connectors, best 2d quality in the industry

This is an OK card if you just want dual monitor support for productivity. I use one up at work and feel like the 2d quality on my modern ATI card is certainly comparable possibly better. On a 1.0ghz P3 computer, though, Counterstrike at 800x600 was pretty choppy with the G450..

I dont think anyone would say it is a gaming card.

Reseller Ratings says they're okay people, so if you need dual monitor non-gametacular support this looks pretty good.

the good thing about matrox cards that nvidia and ati cards cant do


is you can run 2 monitors at different resolutions / refresh rates. you cant do that on nvidia or ati cards.

This is a great 2d ddr dual display card at a decent price.

I'd recommend the 32mb card for $40-45 if you can find it, which is what they sell for new on ebay. (I think they are about $88 new at newegg tho.)

i am not too sure about that, i had a geforce4 running on a 22" crt and a 15" lcd. it is obvious that the resolution and refresh rates differ.

i can't think of anything good about this card that is 2-3 years old. i think matrox is a great company that makes good products, but not recently. ati and more or less nvidia have been the industry leaders. tigerdirect had some good deals on ati and nvidia cards that provided more 3d performance

Despite the fact that its 2-3 years old doesn't make any difference at all. You don't see nVidia and ATI producing products like Matrox, sure ATI and nVidia have TV out but on the matrox you can open a video on monitor 1 and it will automatically make it full screen on monitor 2 and obviously there's many other differences. I think they are the industry leaders only because matrox isnt marketing their products quite like ATI and nvidia.

Is that true? I am running my flat panel and my CRT monitor at different resolutions and refresh rates on my ATI 8500 card right now. How is that possible???

Then there's the killer DVD mode for head #2, which only plays movies of any type including Xvid, not the desktop view. I bought a few extra cards.
