I got the Matrox G400MAX Dualhead old card to play with, and I need to install it in a system with an Intel 815E chipset with Intel board running Windows ME. I downloaded the latest non-beta drivers for WinME from the Matrox site, but the card just doesn't work right. And that pisses me off really a lot since I was performing a fresh install of ME right away, and after installing the drivers I'm getting error messages, and the system hangs on bootup.

Anyone know if it's a specific Matrox ME issue and how to fix it? I'm really tempted with Matrox 2D quality, and would like to give this card a second lease of life in my system. What should I do?

If the systems crashes on boot, it's probably not the fault of the Matrox card. Dumb down the system to figure out what the problem is. Incidentally, Matrox drivers are picky about the installation; if you upgrade or reinstall, you must first completely uninstall the old Matrox drivers.

'Picky', my butt! Man, I was performing a clean install of genuine Windows ME on an authentic PIII system with a real only Intel motherboard, I plugged in the famous quality, first-source Matrox card and it doesn't work! I also have to add the card worked perfectly in the same system under Windows 2K.
