Matrix question: Why does the Matrix "exist"??

I saw the original a few times but can't remember the exact answer as it's been a year or two since I last saw it. (though I'm going to watch it again as a refresher before going to see the new one)

Anyway, what was the machines' reasoning behind creating the Matrix? Was it explained and I forgot or was it never really explained?

I did a search and did not find much here nor on Google.

Thanks!

it subdues and controls humans so that the machines can harness the humans' bioelectric energy to power themselves

cuz our SUVs blacked out the sun and the Matrix needed a new power source, rumor has it Matrix Reloaded reveals that it originated as an Xbox hacked into a linux box...

Yeah but.....they're in those little pods and are all jacked in already... I don't understand why it was created by the machines. It is a point of failure and obviously that happened. Do bodies with no conscience/thought die off or something?

exactly. remember the line, "the body cannot exist without the mind"?

Like he said. It harnesses the power. They don't want humans wasting their energy on other things. With them subdued they have 24/7 supply of power with no fight.

They should just burn all the bodies. More efficient.

The machines were using the humans as batteries because the humans scorched the sky and earth in their last ditch effort to win the war against the machines. The matrix was created to control and contain the human bodies that were kept in stasis so that they would not escape rebel against the machines.

Maybe you missed the point of a web forum ..... DISCUSSION

Maybe you also missed my note that I didn't find much on Google nor did I feel like spending anymore time with static, simplex communication.

Go thread crap somewhere else please.

well, apparently his mind is stronger than a majority of others. he has the ability to manipulate the matrix unlike anyone before him. i suppose it's the equivalent of some people being smarter than others.

machines were sentient, perhaps they thought themselves superior. apparently they have emotion. they probably felt a certain need to be somewhat humane, which is why the first matrix was a supposed wonderland.

How in the hell did they know that Neo was the one? I remember it had something to do with psychic ability, but i don't remember them saying anything about Neo having psychic ability before he knew he was the one.

If you can't find the answer on Google, then I'm sorry, but you suck at the internet.

Better than Googling or ATOTing it - why not just watch the original Matrix? They do explain it in there, you know. 😛

i really don't think it was a matter of being human at all. they felt that they could control the humans better, and thus produce higher power yields, if the humans "lived" in a euphoric world.
