<< actually, they offered him his going rate before romeo must die came out. after romeo, his price rose, and they refused to pay his new price. his loss mostly. matrix 2 would've given him HUGE exposure, which would've paid off on the future. >>

TuffGuy,

What are you talking about? Most people know who he is now because of Lethal Weapon 4. Then there was The Black Mask. He's also had his run at the video rental stores with the Legend, The Enforcer, and so many others. He has plenty of exposure. He has a huge reputation overseas as well. What the hell would he need the Matrix 2 for?

That doesn't make sense, if Jet Li accepted the low-ball offer for a huge movie like the matrix II, then everyone else would think that he would accept low ball offers for both big and small movies.

And the matrix sucked storywise, don't give me that philosophical 'reality' crap. It's an action movie, plain and simple, don't make it more than it's supposed to be.

black mask is one of the worst movies that he has ever done. how much money did that make? and while you and i know about the videos, (of which i think that fong sai yuk is his best), not many chains carry them. he's had very minimal exposure. as for lethal weapon 4, he wasn't in a starring role. matrix 2 would give him a chance to showcase his skills, and it's a movie with a cult following. even TALKS of him being in the movie make him sound like a legend. imagine if he had actually done the movie.

by that rationale, every big-name star started out demaning big salaries.

I agree with Tuffguy. He hasn't had enough exposure here in the states. He has only done 2 Hollywood production films, Lethal Weapon 4 and Romeo Must Die. Black Mask was made and produced in Hong Kong several years ago and redubbed here in the US. I think Matrix 2 would of gotten his name out there and put him on the map along side with the big stars in Hollywood.

What do you mean his acting sucks people?! Critics gave Jet Li rave reviews for Lethal Weapon 4. If anyone has seen Fong Sai Yuk and Once Upon A Time in China II, you know that the character he plays are totally contrasting personalities. Fong Sai Yuk is a young brash teenager with a twist of humor while the other is Wong Fei Hung, a serious leader for his clan of students to fight the injustices in China. The guy can act! Sure, his English isn't the best but its not bad considering he is from mainland China and had to learn it as a second language. Its better than Jackie Chan! As an actor, he's way better than Jean Claude, Norris, Snipes and Don Wilson put together. Its a damn shame he won't be in the Matrix 2.

Everyone says the Matrix 2 will do fine since the original did so well without him. That isn't necessarily true even though many of the original cast is coming back along with Jada and Aaliyah. I remember a lot of sequel flops that have made me even wonder why i spend money on the film. An example is the Mummy 2 (even though it made a ton of money). I love the first mummy but the second one is just stupid. I wanted to see the Scorpion King because he sounded like a kick ass character. Instead, he was in like the first few minutes of the movie and the end with a scorpion body. Pathetic. And what about that aircraft! how the hell did they fix it in the end? How did they open the book of the dead without the key? How did Imotep have eyes already before he even regenerated? O'Connel's son can read Eygptian better than his uncle plus he makes little sand models for his parents to follow? Give me a break. Same cast...different results.

<< it's simple.
Jet Li = less talking, more action
>>

hehe, just like keanu reeves. "WOE"... :). I mean, they might as well had a cardboard cutout of him and have everyone act around him.

anyway, I wanna see 'second rush' (sequel to rush hour). the first movie was so funny!

Jet was offered 3mil per movie (they appearantly wanted him in the next 2)and his going rate is something like 10mil.

I think he fit the Matrix environment well. Its a shame but hopefully we'll see another young actor that will pop up and show us how badass he/she can be.

Actually, from Jet Lis own mouth, he turned it down because the first one was excellent without him, and he didnt want all the action stars tied up in one movie that will take up a good year or two. He was never in SERIOUS talks about the movie. He was their first choice, yeah, but they never really got past the "Hey jet, it would rock to have you in our movie" stage.

Uhh, actually KR's catch phrase is "WOAH"...

If you guys can't even keep that straight, it's no wonder you under-appreciate the
subtle intensity and deep conviction that my man KR puts into his roles. I mean really...

<kidding...>

Seriously,

I don't care about the other guys in the Matrix 2, I just want to see Agent Smith again.

Also I think Snipes is up to Jet Li's acting level.
And I for one would love to see them both in a film together.

classy: "What is this with Jet Li? He can't even act. LOL! Please, Jet Li? He's a joke of an actor. And Jada is pretty, so that addition won't be frowned upon . "

Have you seen any of Jet Li's other movies?! just because he can't speak english well, that does not make him a poor actor. Like "Whoa" wouldn't have been as eloquently put by Jet Li LOL! I wouldn't have minded this comment so much had the MATRIX had good acting...come on, Keanu's acting is a JOKE!!! I still loved the Matrix despite that fact, as I probably would if Jet Li were in it. Not like the other agent had much to say...could've just had him walking around, kicking ass...and at least we would have believed that the actor was actually perfoming some of the stunts...
