For those who have the Malm series bedframe, did you add a mattress base to it? my bro moved and gave me his bed frame so I need to get a matress to go with it. The pics I see on Ikea's site shows the frame w/ just the mattress. Is it more comfortable w/ the mattress base?

i think it might depend on the mattress.. Foam mattresses dont need a box spring..

QFT and most mattress bases are not suspended anyway...just a solid frame with some quilting.

If you have a mega dollar mattress set, chances are the 'base' is not just a wood shell.

The disadvantage is the bed will be higher which is not the style these beds go for.

They also sell short bases....it really depends what you want.

I have the Malm, and there's a choice of the flat wood slats or the curved, making them somewhat sprung, for $30. I went with those and it's been fine, although the bed's now in the guest room.

I have the Malm and use flat slats with Costco's memory foam mattress. Very comfortable, although the slats "give" slightly between the edges of the bed and the center support beam. That's fine for two people sleeping on their own sides of the bed, but it does create a slight "hump" in the middle of the bed where it seems harder because the support beam is so rigid. I suppose curved slats might compensate for that.
