MSPaint drawing

I probably should know how to do this but I don't. :eek: I need to be able to figure out the height of side C for a given length of side A. What I am trying to figure out is how far back I need to be from a tree in my neighbors yard to clear it with my DirecTV dish.

From the TOA part of the whole "SOH CAH TOA" thing you were supposed to learn in 10th grade:
tan 39 = c/a

Thanks! Guess I should have paid closer attention in trig 30 years ago. :eek:

What does that SOH CAH TOA mean? I honestly have never seen that before now. Back in the dark ages when I attended high school I didn't take math past Geometry. I didn't get trig until I was in college after 4 years of Navy.

Sin(x) is opposite over hypotenuse

Cos(x) is adjacent over hypotenuse

Tan(x) is opposite over adjacent

Where x is an angle, hence, SOH CAH TOA

sine=opposite/hypotenuse, cosine=adjacent/hypotenuse, tangent=opposite/adjacent

It's a way to remember which sides each function is defined in terms of.

Edit: Damn...that's twice in the same thread I've been too slow.
