Math Problem too tough for me.

My riding lawn mower broke down and I have been trying to figure out how many miles I will have to walk to cut a 1.5 acre lot with a push mower with an 18" cut. 1.5 acre=65340 sq. ft. Too tough for my old brain.

It will be a little more that you first figure because you will overlap the cuts a little. You won't be getting 18 inches of cuts everytime.

CFster is right, you better get a 12 pack just to be sure though.

I get 8.76 miles plus turnaround distance. Assuming 1" overlap on passes and a square field, you will need 181 passes.

If the lot isn't square you'll save time by mowing in the long direction, of course. Less lost to overlap and fewer turns.

Walk 10' to the phone and call somebody to cut the lawn. Walk 6' to the fridge to get a beer. Walk 22' to the sofa where you can spend the rest of the day watching sports.

Total: 38 feet.

LOL that's gold man!

Thanks for the answers, they are all great. I assumed the overlap when I said 18" cut(20" mower). I do know that after cutting it over a 2 day period, I can barely move today. Every joint in my body hurts.

you have to walk 8.25 miles, assuming no overlap.

This is a really easy problem.

Imagine you're 1.5 acres is one really long strip of grass, 65340feet long, nd one foot wide. Now, your mower is 1.5 feet wide, so you want your strip of grass to be 1.5 feet wide. Ok, so you do 65340/1.5 and now you have a patch of grass that's 1.5 feet wide, and 43560 feet long. So, how far do you have to walk? 43560 feet. Divide by 5280, and you get 8.25miles.
