Mate got a brand spanking new D90 and it's playing up :(

Keeps saying 'Err' and locking up, only way to make it work again is to take the battery out.

The AF also stops working intermittently, and it displays stupid f values half the time.

Luckily he bought it from a bricks and mortar so taking it back isn't a problem, but any thoughts?

I haven't heard of any widespread issues myself, but that's probably because I haven't been paying attention to the camera seen lately.

I hadn't heard anything myself either.

It's very nice when it does work, although the bigger screen does intrude on the thumbspace grip at the back compared to my D80.

Styling is very similar indeed otherwise, and it's very similar to use unsurprisingly. The screen is awesome.

That's too bad, hopefully its an isolated incident and doesn't dampen his enthusiasm.

Yeah he was a bit bummed about it 🙁

Hopefully they'll sort it for him asap.

@troy: :laugh: No 😉

Mine is working fine. I'm just a bit busy with midterms right now so I don't have the time to fully put it through its paces. I'm still getting comfortable with it: all the new control options are almost distracting me from just taking pictures. But I like it so far. 🙂

Haven't noticed any problem yet. Only time I see the "Err" message is when I forgot to insert a SD memory. I bought mine from BB with 10% coupon, thinking about buying the 4yr extended warranty fro $299. Think it's worth it?

check out macks warranty, it might cost a lot less than $299

My friend just bought a D90+18-105mm kit last week, and so far no problems.
I played around with or a while and was thoroughly impressed, especially by the focusing speed and the awesome LCD. Half tempted to jump to Nikon from pentax 🙂

I actually talked to one of the nurses in the hospital I am staying at about a D90 that she just got. She is having issues with it as well, like she can't even take pictures with it anymore after a couple of weeks. Didn't ask if it was an "err" message though.

That's why I've always been too afraid to buy certain things from a mail order, I want to know where I can go for a quick exchange if I've got a problem. Of course I bought my 30D in Taipei when I was there so I guess all rules are broken eventually.

Wow, where did you find a D90 on ebay for $900?
The lowest I am seeing on ebay are all close to $1k~

could you get a d90 any cheaper? i'm thinking of buying one for my wife, before she unwisely buying it for retail price.

i think she's got a n90 already with a big bag of lenses.
