Ok, heres the deal:

What i have now its a P4 1.7 Willamette Core with 512MB of PC2100 RAM

I got a new Asus mobo that support the new prescott chip.

If i were to upgrade 1.7 to 3.0ghz Prescott and use the same PC2100 RAM, how much would the RAM drag down the performance of the Prescott compare to dual channel RAM? or PC3200?

a Ram difference from PC2100 to PC3200 is pretty noticeable - if not drastic. It will definately be worth you saving up 80$ for a decent stick of PC3200 or 160$ for 1 gig dual channel.

The Pentium 4 is a hungry beast that must be fed fast RAM in order to thrive. You need dual channel, PC3200 RAM to really get that Prescott going right. It will just be held back constantly if you use the single stick of 2100.
