matching mobo to gpu crossfire/sli question

i just ordered new system parts and for the motherboard i picked the gigabyte 570 sli model, i dont plan on running two cards anytime in the near future. is it bad to put a crossfire ready card in this motherboard? i really wanted to pick up a 3870, should i return that mobo and get a crossfire one or will it not hurt performance? not too keen on picking up an 8800gt seeing they are more expensive and loud.

1 3870 in an Nvidia 570 SLI mobo will be fine, however you cannot put a second 3870 in that mobo and get Crossfire as Nvidia only allows SLI on their own chipsets.

ok cool, some dude was reviewing the sapphire 3870 on newegg and was saying that it hurts performance to use a crossfire card with sli mobo and vice versa, just wanted to make sure.
