Matching faceplate colors...? Beige is dead?

All the PCs I've ever built were beige. Now we have all these really fun case colors available, but how silly does a beautiful silver chassis (like for instance my new Thermaltake Xaser III V2420AU) look with beige floppy. CD and DVD drives??

What's the best solution?

That's easy; spray paint. The answer is spray paint!

;)

I agree that beige is ugly and boring. I think black is much snazzier. Of course, the beauty of a particular color is in the eye of the beholder.

Silver is a hard color to match. I know certain silver cases come with silver driver covers....dunno if yours did or not. I've seen a limited selection of silver floppies/CDRWs/etc...hard to find though.

Another reason to get a case with a door over the drives.

Cool. :D Thanks guys for the quick education. I've never seen silver face drives ... didn't know they existed. I may just have to get the silver paint out for the DVD-RW drive though...

I'm in love with my Thermaltake Xaser III (although the manuals really do suck) and while I can keep the door closed, when I open it to use the drives I want it to look right.

Thanks again!!

My Lian-Li PC61 looks kind of silly being black with beige drives and such, but it doesn't bother me that much. I don't think the uniform colour scheme would justify spending the money on a new black DVD, CD(DVD)-RW and FDD.

I think consistancy from drive to drive is the important thing. For example, I personally think all silver looks too much like a restaurant kitchen. But a nice silver case with all black drives looks great. But as soon as you cross the line and have multiple drive colors you look unprofessional and silly.

Coolermaster make some silver face plates to go with their silver cases :) (still not managed to buy some though :( - might spray the drives black instead).

I have a silver Lian-Li case. it has beige optical drives. It looks fine. Of course thats just my opinion. Like all issues of case asthetics are.

Actually, the best way to go is vinyl dye.

You can get this at almost any auto parts store. The nice thing about vinyl dye is that it actually soaks into ABS plastic instead of sitting on top like spray paint. The advantage of this is twofold:

1) Your finish is more durable and won't peel off over time.

2) If you spray it on too thick, it will absorb the excess, and the surface will still look good.

I've never tried the metalic grey/silver before so I'm not sure how it looks, but the charcoal grey color is somewhat of a match to my charcoal grey antec case. Either way, it looks way better than it used to with the beige drives.

Edit: forgot to add a the link that got me started on vinyl dye: http://www.gideontech.com/guides/vinyldye/

All biege drives honestly looked fine with my silver Lian-Li, but I switched to all black and I like it a little better. I never would have switched though if my beige floppy and DVD-ROM hadn't both been in need of replacement anyway. I wouldn't have been worth it to change them out if all of the drives still worked perfectly.
