'Matching CPUs' = How close is close enough for late model Xeons?

I have a XEON E5640 SLBVC and I want to get another one to put on the same dual processor mobo.

So my questions are ...

All Xeon E5640 SLBVC stepping CPUs should work together, right?

Is there anything more to the matching process than getting the same stepping of SLBVC?

[ 1 hour later ... ]

Holy cr*p. If I am reading it correctly it appears from what is shown on pg. 29 of ...

Intel Xeon Processor 5600 Series Datasheet

(Google that to get the PDF)

... that you actually can mix similar CPUs if you follow a bunch of arcane rules.

But my original question stands ... If I get another Xeon E5640 with SLBVC stepping that will absolutely be a match, right?

Thanks Burpo!

I think I confused the terminology a bit. SLBVC is the sSpec and B1 is the stepping.

As long as they're the same S-spec and stepping, you're good.
Bought my two E5640s (and later X5675s) separately, no issues.
