I help run an IT Solutions company here in town. I was wondering something and figured you all might be able to help.

1. How does one go about matching a customer with a specific application?

I have a customer that sells mulch, retention ponds, and other ecological based products/services. He has about 20 trucks with a crew of 2 each that drive all over the place to deliver and install various ecological products.

He needs a piece of software that will help him keep track of his inventory, what he's delivering, when it was delivered, where it was delivered, by whom was it delivered, the monetary aspects of the delivery, and so on. I should note that he currently utilizes QuickBooks and would most likely want this application to tie into it somehow.

Any ideas on what I can match him with?

Get a detailed list of what the customer wants to accomplish then use my knowledge and experience to suggest product(s) that would help satisfy their needs.

But also I have a computer science degree so when someone needs something and I cant find a pre existing product to accomplish it I usually try and create one myself.

You could probably accomplish several of his goals by creating some type of database (oracle or maybe even ms access), but I?m not sure about quickbooks integration, not familiar enough with quickbooks to know how difficult that would be.
