Matched DDR moudules?

This is a product description on www.overclockers.co.uk:-

"Corsair 512MB DDR XMS3200 TwinX (2x256MB) Platinum CAS2 (MY-017-CS)
A matched pair of 256MB XMS3200LL Low Latency memory modules - 512MB total - ideal for dual DDR based systems using nForce2 and Intel E7205 "Granite Bay" motherboards."

How important is it that for dualDDR motherboards the modules be "matched". I just bought a dualDDR board (Gigabyte SINXP1394), i was hoping to get away with not buying ram, as i already have 2x256mb ddr sticks. As far as i know they are both pc2700 cas2.5, but different manufacturers. Will this decrease stability/performance? or is the whole "TwinX " thing just marketing bullplop. Plus its more expensive, £22 more to be precise.
Cheers for any advice.

I think the SPD would make adjustments accordingly and the DDR would run as fast as the slowest stick.

Yes, the memory will only run as fast as the slowest stick. However, on that GB board you might want to get that corsair RAM. You just dished out >$200 for a board, you might as well get some RAM that will guarantee the best performance from that investment:

If you can't scrape the money together at the moment, you should be able to run your board with your current memory. However, you probably will not see much boost out of the dualDDR capability w/ unmatched sticks.
