Hmmm...looks like a good read from the reviews on Amazon. Might have to pick this one up as I've been looking for a new book to read. Thanks for posting this TheShiz.

yeah, i was surprised that no one has posted about it. It makes me want to go back and play Keen, Wolfenstein, and Doom. I probably will after I finish the book.

I have been wanting to read this book as well. I read an article the guy wrote about Romero and Ion Storm...it was very interesting from a project management POV...definitely a nice case study.

this book gets pretty detailed about what went on at ion storm, as well as ID, with people constantly being fired, quitting, moving around. The only solid employee at ID is of course Carmack.

yeah, but it is a great story, in the book it made out that romero pretty much played doom all the time after it came out instead of doing any work. Carmack is the more interesting character study in the book.

This sounds like a great book... i might pick it up this weekend.

its a page turner, some of the writing is kind of cheesy, romero is quoted as saying "dude" a lot, but he probably does say it a lot, heh. The author put it together through a ton of interviews, even got a ride in one of carmack's many ferraris.

another funny thing is romero played in some doom 2 tournament and would yell out taunts to his opponents like "suck it down" and "eat that f##ker!, i wonder if any of them taunted him back, the book makes romero seem like an ass a lot of the time.
