[/b]Who came up with the idea that "self-love" is a sin? Why is it a sin? and price do you pay for that particular sin? Secondly who has never done it?

I'm pretty sure it was the Church who came up with that - probably misinterpreting the bible again.

duno, i'm assuming it must not be a sin, and since it's not mentioned anywhere in the bible, i duno what "christian" groups have against it.

If there really is a price to pay I bet all members of this forum would be blind by now ;)

Hmm, interesting question.

Heres what I figure, while the bible may not specificly talk about the act of masturbation, it does talk about lusting after others, which im pretty sure is involved in that act. So while it may not techniclly be a sin, it can be seen as a symptom/result of it. But, I'm not really sure.

That could almost be an insult.

It's probably seen as a sin because your seed is going to waste instead of going towards procreation. Same reason the pope is agains condoms and birth controls I guess. The way some religion sees it, sex is meant for bringing forth new life, so spilling the seeds of life in such a wasteful manner is sinful.

Heh, I don't think the pope knows much about biology then...because we keep making new "seeds"! :D

BTW, I'm taking bets on when this thread will be locked...its 1000:1 odds that it won't be...

I think thunderbooty has the answer on this one. The act itself isn't the problem, it's the lust that's involved that is a problem.

Oh a few more things. Some studies show that after a man ejaculates after not having sex for a while, he is infact getting rid of tired, old sperm cells. If he were to then rise to the occasion again and fire his cannon once more after enough time has passed to replenish his ammo, the resulting swimmers are newer and more energetic than the ones that were previously gotten rid of, if fewer. As for why it's considered a sin to for women to "self-love" I guess it partially goes back to some men not feeling manly enough if the wife has to help him do his duty as a husband. There's probably a few other reasons also, but I don't feel like getting into them at this time.

okay, so the bible says not to commit adultery.....if you were married and you were, ya know...doing your thing, lusting after your wife, would it be wrong?

Nah if it were gonna get locked I think they would have done that by now, I'm pretty sure the mods have pagers that go off when words like masturbation get posted ;)

Well, if the Catholic priests came up with it being a sin, how many priests and monks do you think actually never committed the act of masturbation (since they can't marry)?
