Master Volume Control Gone in Task Bar

I can't seem to get my windows master volume control to come up on boot. Is there as way to add sndcol32.exe to the memory resident stuff that is loaded on boot? It is kinda irritating when you can't adjust the volume without jumping through hoops. I am using XP.

Open Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices, then the Volume Tab, and make sure the checkbox is checked to put the volume icon in the Task Bar. It should then appear in the Notification Area.

OK - right click the Taskbar and make sure "Hide Inactive Icons" is not checked. If that is not hiding the Vol icon, then follow this procedure:

In XP I would uncheck this, click Apply, check again and click Apply again. Never tried on 7.

I have done the check box thing. I have made sure that the sndcol32.exe is in the start folder on all users and on operator. When I manually execute the file the volume control panel comes up but there is no icon in the system tray.

If you can manually access the file, try the right click and SEND TO command. If nothing else, you can put it on the desktop.

Apparently your sndcol32.exe file works. So, try typing in the RUJN sequence referenced in the KB.

"Click Start, and then click Run.
Copy and paste or type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
mmsys.cpl
Click to select the Place volume icon in the taskbar check box.
Click OK"

Why not just replace the sndcol32.exe file?
